Indeed, though I was rarely a fan of the look (very rarely). As well, from a body mechanic standpoint, I couldn't think of a worse material to apply to a car body and the edge trim was usually held in place with clips and holes through the body panels (as with most trim back then). They were practically begging for rust issues.

I never saw the point either - and like you say, they were a HUGE rust vector.
 
Vinyl tops and convertibles , not in it for the long haul.

I didn't realize that we were all of a sudden being practical and responsible in this group.... How does that work out for all of us who own a soft top vehicle?

I guess you could put vinyl on a hardtop....

We'd be discussing minivans and man buns if we cared about such things...

Actually, I did think of a worse material. You may recall some higher end cars like Broughams had padded vinyl tops. Nothing like adding a sponge to the mix so as to absorb and hold the moisture directly against the metal once the vinyl begins breaking down... :ROFLMAO:
