Does anyone regret selling their hard top?

When I get my TJ back later this week (or next) I'm going to pull the hard top back off and go back with the soft top. I don't want to take a chance at destroying the hard top while on a trail. I've been tossing the idea around of selling it and/or trading it for 1/2 doors.

Has anyone sold theirs and regretted it, even though you didn't use it much?

I don't use mine much. It hangs from the rafters in the barn.
Mine will sit in a back room of the shop. That's why I'm debating sell/trading it. But, it is original to the TJ and if I ever decide to sell it, might be worth it to hang onto it.

I don't see much of a point in the hard tops unless it's either resale value or you live in a very cold place and drive your TJ a lot during the winter. Then it makes sense.
It has been nice this winter to drive it with the hard top since I put the BoomMat headliner in it. I just don't want to have to worry about what I might put the top into and destroy a $1,200-$1,500 top. That's what they are going for around me.

My advise would be simply to store it unless you need the money. Of course it takes up a lot of room, so I realize that's easier said than done unless you have the space.

I regretted not having one. Mine came with 1/2 doors and a soft top. I purchased a Used Hard top and some full doors and also added a headliner. I love it for the winter time. That being said if there is salt out on the roads i leave it in the garage. I store mine with a manual cable system I bought from Quadratec for the spring-fall in the garage and park under it. I haven't used my 1/2 doors much since i got the full doors. It's just so much easier to not have to carry around the tops to the half doors when rain is in the forecast. I keep the rear windows in the tailgate area behind the seats and i can put up the soft top and be weather proof quickly without eating up all my rear storage. I only use the half doors on weekends if i know it's going to be no rain all weekend etc.

if i was further south I could get by without one. But, for winter i love it.

I only wanted one when I lived in a place with cold snowy winters, as those are hard on soft top windows. Sold mine in 2021 when I moved to OK and haven't missed it.

I've sold 2 and don't regret it. They take up massive real estate when not in use.

IMO, they are also no warmer or quieter than a quality soft top.
I guarantee my hard top warms up faster and is 100x quieter than my soft top, especially after adding the BoomMat headliner.

That's my concern. I've got a Bestop Trektop as my soft top. We don't get much snow anymore.

I used a decibel app (as scientific as that is) and the noise level was no different soft top vs hardtop. I don't remember what the levels were, this was years ago.

Heat--I disagree. The brief time I had a hardtop on, the smc was very cold to the touch and would take forever to heat up.

Still dont regret selling either one!

I bought my Jeep with a soft top. I despise the soft top and won't own another. The more I drove with it, the less and less I liked it. Bought a hard top earlier this year for $1000. Love it. I can take it off when I want to run without doors and a top but then hard top on for everything else.

Sell it, take half the money and buy 1/2 doors for sunny fun days and enjoy life.

Of course I come from the CJ days and never had a hardtop on any of them besides the CJ-8 that got totaled.
