Love the looks of it. Personally would want it to be able to haul a small trailer like a m416 with gear in it. I’m assuming this one won’t cover the body lift gap either?

From an aesthetic point of view I think the counter sunk bolts is a much better look. When I also installed your front bumper rash guard it was very very easy to install to where I never even thought about using a carriage bolt to make it easier. I’d only prefer to use carriage bolts when you can’t access the back side to back it off.
I’ve installed my rear bumper with a poison spyder frame reinforcement bracket and wouldn’t run a rear bumper without one. There are also 4 bolt holes in the middle of the frame that my motobilt bumper also had holes for so I added them as well. You can only access them with the gas tank out but with the frame reinforced brackets and the additional 4 bolts in the middle making it a total of 8 half inch bolts, the bumper and hitch are so strong I’ve carried a set of 30/44 axles on a tray with it. I do not want to do that again but I think if those 4 holes in the frame are on all year models I think that would be a good addition since the skin and steel guards can be removed for touch up or what not while not having to drop the tank to remove the steel base, unless I’m missing something.

Looks great. Can't wait to get to the point where I am upgrading bumpers. Gotta get it running and then frame swap first.
Is rear bumper full width offering corner protection? My vote is for recessed bolts and hitch.

For comparison, the Savvy rear aluminum bumper was not built for the constant bouncing of a bike rack. The aluminum would eventually crack from fatigue if used that way.

What was the hitch intended for then, a recovery point? Could you make a skeletonized base that allows the aluminum recovery and skin to bolt to it similar to the ucf aluminum rear bumper? I know the down side is added weight but how minimal of a steel frame could be added to make the hitch strong enough for a bike rack? At that point would it basically be just a steel bumper with the aesthetic of an aluminum shell?

That’s what I’m trying to avoid(steel bumper with aluminum shell). A lot of bike racks are made from aluminum and work well. I’m not opposed to adding some more hardware to the crossmember. I just don’t want to rely on that for much, but I guess every little bit helps. I have outer frame stiffing brackets they just aren’t in these pictures.

The factory hitch was only connected to the frame and spanned the width free from any other connection.

Do you thinks it would handle my jeep trailer? 20220328_142559.jpg

Loving the bumper, should be installing tomorrow. Fairlead & winch rope coming from BMB. Though now I feel like I need to rebuild/paint my winch so it doesn’t look so old and crusty, lol.

Looks great! Any advice on your approach to cleaning it up? I have high count sanding discs I plan to use in the one I have here.

The only thing I used was some WD-40 and these Scotch-Brite 7447 pads. Sprayed it down and went to town. I tried my best to only go one direction with the pad as well. If you went in all directions you’d see scratches all over the place.

I also used some Sharkhide metal protectant on it. But it kinda got blotchy on me. Annoying, but at the end of the day it’s just a bumper. And I don’t care enough to start over.

It’s far from perfect. But I like the look I ended up with. Kinda a semi-brushed aluminum look, I guess? I didn’t want anything super polished.

Looks great! I’ve never used shark hide. I’ll have to look into that.

I've never worked with it before, just got too heavy with it when spraying it on. But I think using the wipe on version might have been better. Then could have wiped in the same direction as how I scrubbed the bumper down with the scotch-brite pad.
