A woman lost her $823,000 injury claim after lawyers found a photo of her winning a Christmas-tree-throwing competition


A woman in Ireland who sued an insurance company for $823,000 had her injury claim tossed out after the court saw a photo of her taking part in a Christmas-tree-throwing competition.

Kamila Grabska, 36, sued RSA Insurance over what she said were back and neck pains from a car crash in 2017, the Irish Independent reported.

The accident rendered her unable to work for more than five years, she said.

Grabska also said she could not carry her children, finish basic chores, or lift a heavy bag and that, at times, she needed her medication to be brought to her in bed due to the pain, the outlet reported.

But a photo shown to the Irish High Court in Limerick featured Grabska chucking a Christmas tree in January 2018, the report said.

Grabska, a resident of the town of Ennis, was one of the people photographed tossing 5-foot spruce trees at the local tree-throwing competition, as seen in this BBC article. Contestants compete to see who can hurl a tree the farthest.

The Irish Independent reported that Grabska admitted to Judge Carmel Stewart that she won the competition.

A 2018 article from the outlet named her as the victor in the ladies' event. Grabska is featured in the article's lead image in a yellow jacket and work gloves and appears to be flinging a tree.

My dad was the defending counsel in a case very much like that. Guy got hit by a USPS driver and claimed permanent disability, sued for millions to cover lost wages for life (the federal government assumes liability for the US Postal Service, as well as tribal doctors, which is why the US Attorneys office and therefore my dad was involved). Plaintiff got videoed by a PI building a fence around his property, handling posts and rails with ease, digging post holes manually with clamshell diggers...clearly not with the back injury he claimed to have sustained in the accident. They ended up settling for something fair given what injuries and pain he did suffer, but who knows what he had left after paying his attorneys.

Wendy's is the closest place to me to get a fast food burger and I still don't eat there more than once a year but that's just fast food chains in general. I'd slot Wendy's above McD's and BK, maybe on par with Sonic, but below Carls Jr/Hardees, In n Out, Whataburger and the niche places like Smashburger and 5guys. If I want a fast food burger here or in bordering states I'll go to Braums, an OK-based burger and dairy chain that produces their own beef and milk at a ranch about 50 miles from here.

The calories. Add in a side of fries, a drink, maybe a cup of ranch, and people are easily consuming 2,000+ in a single meal. Then the majority of fast food consumers do that twice a day. That's not even addressing the garbage ingredients.

Most degrees are garbage anyway. I know the humanities portion of mine was just a way to keep the useless areas of the college open. Now they have new buildings with coffee shops and shit for colleges that didn't (and shouldn't) exist.

I took a city government class, econ 101/102, and intro to anthropology as required electives. I took the econ classes correspondance while interning at a nuke plant. One whole section was on graphs. How to draw and read them.

I bet the other 2 classes are full of woke BS garbage and even more of a waste now.

I should look at my transcript some time, I bet there are other requirements I took and forgot about. I'll have to dust off the stone tablets they chiseled my transcripts on.

Yep, and some people are so convinced of the college scheme that it's damn near impossible to show them reality, which is that modern college is generally worthless, unless your specific job/career requires it, and you have a realistic path into that job.

That kinda happened to me. I work in a field that requires state and federal licensing, in a state that has boasted about being harder than the feds and being one of the hardest states to become licensed in. When I got licensed 10 years ago, part of the requirement was a bachelors degree (non-specific) or higher. Apparently that did some damage to the numbers and the board walked it back a little, now allowing specific associates degrees plus additional outlined courses as the minimum. They also reduced other requirements not school related. Dicks.

You don't want to know. I graduated ~10 years ago, right as that shit was starting to really show up. My wife went through the same school, the same basic program 4 years later, and they had dropped all history requirements, reduced her math load, and replaced it with made up woke BS classes. One class was based around a book by ibram kendi, specifically stating that black people can not be racist, while all other races of people are races, especially white people. A few weeks in we complained from the teacher up the chain to the dean, all of which told her to pound sand or drop the class, but it was required. She stopped reading the book then, and I started using it to start fires. I helped her make up weekly BS using woke fluff words that I knew and she passed with a C.

I took a lot of classes that I don't remember and they had nothing to do with what I do now. I agree I should find my transcripts and see what they say.

I definitely learned more on the job than in any other way but as Shank said, I'd have not been able to get the jobs I've had without a degree.
