Wildman's TJ is getting a face lift

The only one I could recommend the owner has since retired and been it's been sold

Good machine shops seem to be going away. It really is a shame too but I guess there just isn't the demand for them anymore. Since everything is pretty much throw away.

There used to be a good one over by Covington but it's gone now.

Just got a call back from the machine shop with the "BAD" news... How much this is going to cost me. 😕
More than I'd hoped it was going to cost but cheaper than buying a new pair of heads.
Hughes Engines won't ship the springs until Monday.
And the GRAND total is $780....

I was expectimg much more, but it is what it is..............

I was hoping for closer to $500 but the springs plus shipping was almost $300 alone. So with the additional work they're having to do on the heads I guess it's not that bad.
As I said lesson learned. If I ever do something like this again I'll get bare heads and let the machine shop set them up. Back when I'd bought the heads I was trying to save money by buying them assembled... Not saving anything at this point 😕.

Edit: Along with doing the valve job they are also going to resurface the heads which is nice. So at least I'm starting off with a fresh surface. Wish that the block was still a fresh surface but I'm not pulling it.

I feel you pain brother. Dealing with these older motors is really hit or miss. At least there is light at the end of the tunnel. Hopefully you kick of the new year firing her up and she purrs like a kitten.

Not really sure I even want to go into this right now.... My options for a machine shop are pretty limited so going some place else isn't an option. Get that out of the way FIRST....

Somehow after they had called and found the valve springs that I needed those new parts weren't ordered. So my heads have just been sitting at the machine shop... ☹️
I had to call them back this morning and talk them again since they never called back. And then even more BAD new... I guess the heads have two totally different valve jobs on them and even if I hadn't needed these new springs it was a good thing I had them in there being gone thru.
So HUGE lesson learned... When purchasing heads you always buy bare heads/head in the I-6 configuration and have your local machine shop set them up correctly for you.
So since I know Hughes Engine is SLOW AS heck my guys is they won't see the new valve springs until after Christmas. Now I have my fingers crossed that since they are a vendor that Hughes Engines "MIGHT" ship stuff faster to them but I sure as FUCK ain't gunna hold my breath. Now if the machine shop had done their job or at least asked me if I preferred to order the springs I might have my heads back by now. So I'm sitting here trying not to be pissed off or depressed... I can't rush this and things will happen as they should...

FUCK.....

Unbelievable! Sorry man!

The aggravating part about the heads is that they are technically NEW I'd just had them sitting around since 2013. So buyer beware when dealing with Clearwater heads out of FL.
I'm going to make sure and post up all this on the Dodge forum I'm on too so hopefully others don't have this kind of experience.

Unbelievable! Sorry man!

As they say "Shit Happens" but I'll get it all fixed and hopefully my engine will finally run like it should.

Face Towards Enemy.

Hey these aren't Claymore mines..

It's OK....

I used to LOVE playing with a Claymore... And using the clacker to light up your buddy in the middle of the night... 🤣 🤪

The clacker was the device that you squeezed to set off the claymore. It's a electronic device and puts out a small electrical charge. Just enough when connected to someone's toes to wake them up...

Edit: This was what a clacker was. It was ONE of the ways to ignite the claymore.

This is what I was worried for you on when you mentioned going back to a place that was supposed to get these right the first time - but not having other options around.... Feel for you!

That price isn't as bad as I was expecting - because even the new heads you posted examples of, you'd still want someone to go over them to avoid this same situation - and that would add to the price... So you're behind — but you're still ahead, I guess.

Keep messing with other Jeep projects or other projects around that keep a smile on your face until the heads are back. (y)

As you said it could have been worse. I really don't know what I was expecting price wise but it's also been YEARS since I've had engine work done.

After talking to other people I guess it really isn't that bad by todays standards. And yes even the Edelbrock heads have to be gone thru as there are horror stories about them not being right if you buy the ready to run heads.

I've got things to do. My truck has decided it wants to act up now too so I've got to work on it. I'd rather just go buy a newer one but that isn't in the cards right now.

I did get the stereo working again. I've got to pull the seats out so I can get everything mounted where I want and the wires routed as cleanly as possible. Then I've got to get my Auxbeam switch mounted and all my lights hooked up. So I've got things to keep me busy while I'm waiting.

That’s a big boi. Three speeds right?

Yes, three speed t-case.
3.05 low range & 5.44 low low range.
STaK's did offer it in other gearing configurations also plus a 2 speed version like an Atlas. They also made a Dana 300 replacement case.

This company bought the designs from STaK's when they went out of business and fixed the problems with their design and now make their version.

Nice, that’s around I said I’d like to have. Keep my current 2.72, and add ~ 4:1 or lower.
