Yep, your problem is that you got the 3.92 and up carrier and your existing 4.56 gears are the thick cut style meant to be used on a 3.73 and down carrier. You are currently trying to slam the ring gear into the pinion gear which is why it isn’t working.

Absolutely correct….6 hours trying to get it to fit

Sending locker back to exchange for right one…..I don’t have enough experience with installing pinions to trust myself

Did you measure backlash before you disassembled everything? If not, I would reassemble everything the way it was and measure it. You want to shoot for the same when installing the new carrier.
