Is my axle shaft too long? Or am I clueless?

Bought a set of Yukon inner chromo shafts to go with my hub kit. Can't get the passenger side to go far enough into the carrier to seat the hub.

Differential is a Eaton e-locker in a rubicon front Dana 44.

Spec says 32.28", which is assume is from the end to the center of the yoke hole. These measure about 3/8" long. Wondering if im doing something wrong or they are screwed up.

Stock front for comparison with yoke lined up.

It definitely looks long. Did you buy them new or used? If used and you can't return them, then you might be able to cut it down some.

Bought new from East Coast Gear Supply. Drivers side went in smoothly. Ill get in touch with them just wanted to make sure I wasn't nuts

There is a small length difference between a Rubicon 44 and a 30 spline Super 30. I ran into this with RGA during my hub conversion. I ended up both grinding back the step down just before the splines and chopping a bit off the end.

Good to know. This is interesting. Wondering who makes an axle shaft thats actually the correct length, its rather not have to cut it myself and assume taking it to a machine shop wouldn't be inexpensive.

The axle shaft is correct for what it belongs to. The problem is whoever grabbed from the wrong pile.

Got it, so there is a correct part out there, its just not this?

Correct. In my case with RGA, it was faster and easier to fix it myself than to deal with getting the right part. Pick your poison and assess your confidence to cut up an axle shaft.

Ok, thanks. Seems they sent me the wrong part number for both sides.

I received:
YA W38811
YA W38812

And i think I needed:
YA W39601
YA W39602

I guess thats what I get for just assuming they would suggest the correct parts and not double checking everything. Both shafts are different length, but the drivers side fits, just with less spline engagement.

Unrelated, but why are the ujoint cups so damn tight on these shafts? Or what am I doing wrong?

I hit the cup through, until I could pull the opposite side cup off with a pair of pliers, then tried to push the cup backwards to remove the opposite cup. It ended up catching and distorting some of the metal in the hole of the joint, so i stopped, pushed it forward and cut it off with an angle grinder. This feels like a garbage chain of events.

I've replaced a ton if these on driveshafts and have never had a problem. What gives?
