You are not kidding- @Hog And I had a big hammer fest one Saturday at my place with some- I’m not sure the details but knowing how to not damage the axle seals would be the only thing that comes to mind when you put the axles back in and you might see little plastic things that would come out with some of them that the factory used for that process I believe.I did both sides on mine in the driveway last fall, and it was a very straightforward job--lots of good Youtube vids. I had both axles out, I think I recall it was necessary.
Plus, you get to relieve some frustration by banging the everlovin' $#!t out of the old u-joints to get them out!
How much trouble is it to change unit bearing?
Can I still drive it until fixed?
The hardest part for me was breaking the bearing bolts loose. They wouldn’t budge till I soaked them with (homemade, 1/2 atf and 1/2 acetone) Kroil….. then it was easy. I also replaced the axle shaft universals. Although only one bearing was starting to go I replaced bearings and universals on both sides. Another tip, I’d have one or two of those plastic discs handy in case they get broken. How much trouble is it to change unit bearing?

You can also get new unit bearing bolts on Amazon for about $12 per side. 3 on either side. I replaced mine when I did the bearings just because they were really rusty and I try to replace bolts on any parts I replace. How much trouble is it to change unit bearing?

Yes you can drive it if the wheel is not just flopping but notice where I corrected my post- Usually a click when you’re turning is your axle U joint- Basically if I ran into either one of those acting up I’m gonna fix it as quick as I can find time
It is not a terribly hard job- I’m trying to remember the process and if you have to remove the stub axle
If you’re doing one you may want to do the other if it has considerable mileage and do both sides
Spray WD-40 liberally on the axle u joints and if quietens down then it’s probably them- What you’re doing is putting some temporary lubrication on the jointWhat is the best way to track that down ? Mine has started doing a click/pop when I turn the wheel either way, but it does not do it all the time mainly when it warms up from driving 20-30 miles, its early in the turn sometimes like 10 and 2, and then again sometimes it will do it clocked all the way to one side or another.
Um you stripped everything out in preparation to install the pole in the back????Take a guess what I did today to prepare for tomorrow.
