I'm really new to owning a Jeep so I'm not sure what is causing this noise.
Slowing down usually kicks it off.
It will start with a pop and then it will start whining. The popping will happen randomly and engaging the brakes do not stop the sound.
The whining is consistent with the speed and will normally go away if I stop but then will continue some time later.
There are times that it doesn't make any noise.
Doing a little research on this forum, I'm thinking it's the ujoint in the front axle. If I do replace the ujoints on both sides are there things I should just go ahead and replace since there is a decent amount of work just to get to the ujoint?

Likely it's either a u-joint (when is the last time you greased them?) or a unit bearing going bad.

Just greased all the zerks I could find. I went for a drive after and it came back.

Just checked again but it doesn't look like the ujoints have zerk fittings.

I bought this Jeep last week and I'm trying to get everything worked out.
I'd like to add all the installed equipment on my profile but I can't figure out how.

You can remove the front shaft to confirm whether or not it is the source of the noise. Front driveshaft joint failure can lead to catastrophic destruction of the transfer case. I would either rebuild or replace the front shaft.

X100.

@Chris can help on the mods list, but we like to wait before you post it, in case we need parts off of it first.
