Where to look for a TJ?

What, no recommendations for Barret-Jackson or Mecum auctions? You can get a dubious vehicle for way more than market value.

No need to travel for that. We have Davis Autosports here. Fine Jeeps for double/triple the price.
WARNING! This site is only for people with lots of money to waste.

When I was looking in February the main places I looked were Craigslist, FB Marketplace and a little on Auto Trader. There were actually a fair number to pick from and a few obvious scams. I was looking for something essentially stock.
Found this one 60 miles away on Craigslist. Paid a little more than I wanted but it was essentially a stock 103K mile, one owner rig with all maintenance records.

Nice find! I haven’t even checked Craigslist. Mostly been looking on FB marketplace

I remember years ago when they first started out posting youtube vids of their Jeeps. They weren't priced too much higher than the market for clean southern Jeeps, which was intriguing to a 16 year old who at the time was only able to afford local rusted out XJs. Now they are ridiculously priced, and many of their Jeep builds seem to be "unfinished".

Bring a Trailer is good for that too.

Sites like Bring a trailer and Cars and Bids have completely changed the enthusiast used car market for the worst. Gone are the days where you could find a decent used car locally that was owned by an elderly person who drove it on Sundays, because now dealers scoop them up and throw them on those sites for max profit.

Years ago, I was trying to deal with them on a clean white, lifted WJ. They wouldn't budge on their $9000 price tag. They forced me to buy one from the original female owner (husband owned the Jeep dealership) for $3200. 4.7 V8 Quadra-Drive too.

Ideally and in a perfect world that exists ONLY in a future TJ owner's wildly-unrealistic dreams:

Nothing from "The Salt Belt" — states that use road salt to control snow and ice: Alaska, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Washington — other states such as Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho, and Utah are also considered part of the Salt Belt but use less corrosive substances. 😜

Must be WA DC, not the state

Back in the day I sold my parents my 10yr old silver Chevy that I bought new here in Ca. They lived in Wi. I visited them the next summer and every rock chip in the paint became a rust bubble the size of a quarter with in 5 yrs it was shot. I have several 20+ yr old vehicles here in Ca and none have a speck of rust on them. Even my dented and scratched 89 YJ is rust free.

Ben found his 100% rust free high mileage TJ Rubicon on Marketplace in South Carolina. You should have no trouble finding a clean rig to build close to home. Or are you looking for a built rig?
