I just take them to the back and side yard and use them for fire starters.

We have a place that takes all cardboard for free. Also have a dumpster at the office that I can fill.

Cardboard is good to compost and i use it as “carpeting “ in the vegetable garden in the walk paths and it keeps the weed down.

cardboard goes out to the garbage and I usually don't break it down.

You mean like when my kids put 3 of them in the bin and it's full when it could hold 40 broken down?

Agree

I usually find ways to use it or they go in the trash bin but a couple times a year I end up with so much of it that they've just got to go. In that case, the waste transfer station has some recycling receptacles for things like paper, cardboard, etc and they go there (free to city residents but no one is out there checking IDs). After Christmas is a big one because most of our stuff comes via Amazon, and in this case I had the shipping boxes from Christmas in addition to all of the things we've bought for the theater room project like the shower pan and surround, flex duct, the vanity, the 6 pack of can lights, etc. Even broken down and ratched strapped down it was a full pickup bed.

My dump fees here in SoCal run $40 per ton. I’ve never had less than a ton so I don’t know if there is a minimum fee. $5 for a loose tire. My truck and dump trailer are pre registered and weighed so I don’t need a weigh out. Before I registered I made sure the tank was full, placed tool boxes in the back seat and kept the heavy ramps on the trailer. Saves me a few pennies every time I go which is every 2 months or so. They are very strict on covers loads and won’t accept your load without a cover. Luckily my dump trailer has a built in mesh cover.
