So, finally got to taking the TCase apart to replace the output shaft that got bent back in August.
The rear driveshaft on my '97 TJ came off at highway speed, which bent the shaft.

Upon taking the unit apart today, I find this. The inside of the tailshaft housing that the bearing rests against is broken out.

Anyone ever see this before?

Was it caused by the side load on the bearing, the same load that bent the shaft?
Or did I break it during disassembly?

I will freely admit to doing stupid shit, but I would think it would've made noise when it broke.

I have a TCase out of an XJ sitting here but it's was mated to an automatic. I haven't looked but I assume the input shafts are different so swapping would not work.

My current "plan" is to rob the tailshaft housing off the other case to get this one going.

Thoughts?

Anyone have an extra housing laying around?

I have seen exactly that on an XJ. He was having shifting problems anyway, so we just used the told tail housing from mine after I did the SYE. Truthfully I don't know what problems yours would cause in that state. Unless you can get your hands on a new/old tail housing (anyone who did an SYE probably has one), I might just say send it. But don't @ me if blows up. Mac said it was ok first.

Am I safe to assume the other tcase from an XJ would not work?
It's not readily accessible to compare input shafts but I'd assume they are different?

I do have my old tail housing from my 97...also did a SYE.

Let me know if you want me to toss it in a box and send it to you...but I think you've got it.

Any guess what caused it to come apart? Are you thinking it happened when the output shaft got bent? It's not bent a ton- maybe 1/16" is all.

I'm kind of afraid to pull the one off my other tcase and break it, too.

Well my rear driveshaft is vibrating. The centering yoke was hashed bad. Teraflex SYE. I think my housing is ok and the rear output bearing is shot. I grabbed a new one the other day.

This is most of my drama and experience with my 231J.
