What do you enjoy about getting old?

57. I will wait for the forum elders to say, you’re not old to which I say, whatever. Anything over 50 is old and I miss having that young man energy!

5 years younger than me, I still have the young man energy, it just doesn't last as long. I am up at 4am leave work at 5pm and depending on what im doing usually in bed by 9pm.

I'm only 42 years old, but my wife (who is 8 years younger than I am) is always ribbing me about how I'm becoming an old man.

I asked her to give me examples and she listed the following:
  1. I like to bird watch.
  2. I love smooth jazz and classical music.
  3. I enjoy taking my time when walking (including grocery shopping).
  4. I'm more interested in what people have to say as oppose to being entertained.
  5. I love to sit outside, sip tea, and just enjoy the silence of rural Wyoming.
My response of course was that I enjoy these things.

That leads me to the question, what do you enjoy about getting old that you didn't used to enjoy (or appreciate) as much when you were younger?

You are still very young. Wait a few more years and you will have a way different prospective.
I have a lot more years behind me than I have in front of me.
I like waking up in the morning.
Spending time with kids & Grandkids.
Jeep rides. Making things work on my jeeps.
Gardening in the spring.
Deer hunting in the fall.
Fishing whenever I can.

I'm pushing 50 and at a really great spot in life. I'm happy, have lots of friends, spend all my free time doing family stuff or old car and Jeep stuff with my friends. I'd say my favorite thing about getting older is being able to focus on career and work less, and fun with family and friends more

Thought of another one.

When I was younger I used to hate mornings as I was much more of a night owl. These days I love waking up early, enjoying the morning, and going to bed earlier instead. I don't think I could stay up late if I tried!

8pm is a struggle these days. 5am is a blessing. Glad the sun is coming up now. 🤣

After 37 years of working swing shift (2nd shift), even in retirement, staying up until between 1 or 2am is still the norm for me. As an old guy, the nice part about that is I get to do it because I want to, and not because my work schedule dictates it. If I have to wake up early in the morning, I feel like I'm being punished. ;)

Pretty much this - although I never worked swing shift. I used to be morning person, up at 5:30 at the latest. Then I married a nite owl, and then I became a Belly Dancer. Neither is conducive to early mornings. Now I'm usually up till at least 3 or 3:30, sometimes 4, once in a while 5, and 6 isn't unheard of...

One more thing...

I will never complain about getting old.

I personally know too many people that never got that opportunity.

Every new day is a gift and should be treated as such if you can.

1000%. when I turned 40, I really started to take my health seriously. I’m 20 pounds lighter than my high school varsity wrestling weight and arguably in better shape because instead of out training bad decisions I actually consider what I eat, how I eat, and the way in which I exercise.

I can't stay up late anymore, but I also still have a hard time getting up early. When do I stop wanting a solid 10
