What did you do to your TJ today?

Trying to decide which lights to stick with. Both are JW Speakers. Chrome ones are the Evo J series (09/2015) and the black housings are Evo J2 (08/2018). Lows are basically the same, but the high beams are better on the J2. I rarely use high beams though, so it's mainly coming down to an aesthetic choice.

Wired up and installed my homemade relay panel today. Power source is coming from my 2nd battery. My accessories will pull from aux battery so should eliminate any dead batteries View attachment 152456View attachment 152457
Definitely something I want to do The battery space on the driver’s is perfect for that and a smaller battery /air compressor as well.

Managed to get time(I know laughs) to get the front line changed and added a nodular steel cover to the Dana 30. Did this for a few reasons. One of them was to make sure if I hit anything I can’t see the metal one didn’t start singing up too much, two I will just build up the Dana 30 and keep using that with the jeep.
I don’t foresee too much crawling or Much high performance abuse so this will do. Lubelocker gasket added as well. Of course, the 30df/lbs for the bolts was too much and I snapped one of them. Will upgrade all with better ones and just torque to 25ft/lbs.

Once I get the transfer case shifter installed I will be done and gathering parts for a stroker build.
Stay safe everyone

Just my opinion but the black ones look better, blend in nicely with your chrome grill. The chrome ones just stand out a bit too much.

Undergoing great consternation because I want to do everything at once. I want to regear, I want to take advantage of a sale on tires so I can go to 33s, and I want a partial tummy tuck so my shifter doesn't hit the console.

Just several annoyances I want cleared up for when I can drive it again when work opens back up and I can't do everything at once.

"Like!" but I am going to need to see some pictures of the process!

I need to make a build thread but it will be more like an unbuild and redo thread. I see now why the prior owner skipped all the unfun parts. He also sold it for a song because it's practically useless since none of the support work has been accomplished.

I just can't commit to an order. Ideally, it would go regear, partial tummy tuck, and when the current tires needed replacement...downgrade to 33s.

Pulled the transmission today due to a throwout bearing failure. I learned a few things as a result looking over the parts once I removed the transmission.

  1. If you hear a squealing noise coming from your transmission when you depress the clutch, your throwout bearing is on its way out and taking the clutch with it. The squealing is the result of the throwout bearing freezing up slipping against the clutch fingers. This burns the fingers off the clutch. When you hear the squealing, you have approximately +/- 10 clutch actuations left until the throwout bearing goes out and you will no longer be able the shift gears from a stopped position. Get where you are going fast.
  2. Once the throwout bear fails, about the time the ball bearing fall out, the throwout will rotate enough that the ears attached to the clutch fork that it is impossible to engage the clutch.
  3. My clutch disk was still in pretty good shape considering the Jeep has 175,000 miles on it.
  4. My flywheel was in incredibly good shape, I was really surprised. I thought it had cracks, but doesn't. I bought a new flywheel just incase so I'm going the put the new flywheel in anyway.
  5. Rear main oil leak is worse than I though, now is the time to go after it.
  6. I appear to have a valve cover leak also, I plan to go after it after I get this transmission back in.
  7. The biggest find was a torn shifter boot at the top of the transmission. It would totally let water into the transmission if I crossed a flood area. I ordered a new shifter assembly today with seals. I'm going to change the transmission fluid also as a precaution.

Received some new speakers from Crutchfield and installed them. What a difference. Now waiting for the sub amp I forgot to order with the speakers. Also picked up a Currectlync off Craigslist for $250.

Nice! I saw that currectlync for sale on FB marketplace last week and I was very tempted! (I’m in Montco) But I’m good with the ZJ tie rod
