What did you do to your TJ today?

Saw this on the news. Guy in Canada got a DUI in his neighbor's Jeep. OH Canada. 🥳

Nope left LA at 10pm and it’s a 12 our flight…
Just arrived back in New Zealand… good to be home, although I left California in 80° warm sunny weather And arrived home to 41° wind and rain 🤔.
I’ve missed driving my Jeep so can’t wait to get back in the saddle this morning

That's because you flew through a rip in time and landed in winter

Glad you made it home safe bud!!!!

I have some @Fluxor A pillar light mounts coming, and the wide 40 pattern KC Pro6's for them showed up today.

Normally I order direct from KC because they are really close to the same price everywhere with free shipping. But this time when I searched the part number for the pair and beam pattern, Walmart came up $130 cheaper. I was extreeeemely skeptical that they were legit new KC. Figured worst case if they were bootleg I would just return them.

Not my 1st KC rodeo. Got them today and they are 100% real (YAY!). And sold via Walmart from an autoparts dealer in Watervliet, MI. My guess is the dealer is getting around the KC minimum advertised pricing set by KC by selling through Walmart.

I finished installing prototype #1 of the Tek-Rak

Brackets in position w/ rivets
(Yes I free handed those cuts on the band saw.)

Test fit the cross bar.

secured the brackets

Installed the bezel and phone holders
(breaking the grill was a bonus)

Long shot

What I learned and how I would do it differently
I would spend more time aligning the brackets and drilling the holes into that dash frame. My brackets shifted from their intended position after the rivets were tightened.
Drilling the holes was a PITA. I used a 90° setup on my gun that was really difficult to keep in place so the holes wandered a bit off course due to the awkward drill angle.
I would also make a template and then cut and fold the bracket from a single sheet instead of using separate L-brackets so that would be stronger.
If it was one piece, then the 2 holes for the bezel could be used to secure it.
I also probably wouldn't use rivets again, I would use panel nuts because they will 'float' until tight, allowing for better positioning and adjustment of the vertical brackets.

Even after all of the test fits, these verticals ended up being a bit narrower that intended, as well as a bit closer to the windshield than my numerous test fits.
This is what caused the cowl to bend and crack the vent, and admittedly, also what "forced" me to shave a bit off both sides of the center bezel to clear the vertical arms.
I think it turned out pretty good.
Far better than a suction cup on the windshield IMO.

I have about $100 into this assembly, which seems like quite a bit until you realize that the phone holders were $33 each, plus 2 clamps and 2 arms at about $9 each. That puts my setups at $50 each, and they fit the look and shape/size of the setup.

L-brackets, 1" aluminum bar stock, and the hardware was all repurposed spares and leftovers.
The same phone clamp with an arm and clamp was over $60 each, and the arm and clamp were both solid "no's" for this application/placement.

There's room for a sandwich arm in the middle, hands free eating while driving. Clamp in a burrito or a Reuben and you're good to go. :D

And I know at least one of you bastards reading this is thinking, "That's not such a bad idea" ('cause it isn't! :D).

Whether you'd admit to it in public, that's another matter entirely... :ROFLMAO:
