What did you do to your TJ today?

Got the park brake cables for the disc brake 44 swap installed. Had to enlist the assistance of my wife.

I need to get around to installing my parking brake cables, as that's the last bit to finish my JK Dana 44 swap. My cables are sitting in the stack of "when I get around to it" parts, right next to the half-finished JK Dana 44 front axle.🤦‍♂️

3D printed punches?

What are those for?

Pushing out the old upper Rear Main Seal - some people carefully use a steel punch, some use brass - in an effort to avoid any slips from gouging the metal channel
Since I couldn't find any brass punches to buy locally, I realized I could have my wife CAD some up and 3d print them and have no worry of a slipup marring or scratching anything
They did work!

If you have an old toothbrush and a grinder , your done.

Got the Sony XAV-AX3200 installed with new kenwood speakers 5.25 front and back. Noticeable difference. Was especially surprised at the sound quality difference between bluetooth and when Android Auto in plugged in. Anyone else noticed the difference.

Since I was swapping to the double din I installed the bulletpoint rubitrax phone mount system. Still lukewarm about it.

I used nice chop sticks

So the arrow on the pump assembly...I thought it was supposed to line up with the fuel output...am I wrong?

-Mac

I just removed my fuel tank, and the fuel outlet was not lined up with the arrow.
I don't think it really matters.
The arrow on the fuel pump is supposed to line up with the 2 marks on the tank.
I think this is just so the fuel level float reads on the gas gage correctly.

Ah, ok. Makes sense.

Took it for the 1st real drive.

When I first went to look at it, I only took it around the block and although the clutch was weird and it was quite squeaky, it seemed ok. This Sunday, I put about 15 miles on it...here's the initial list:

The steering column groans something awful. I'll be applying some lithium grease to the firewall grommet and if needed, re-greasing the carrier bearing.

The brakes pulled hard to the right. The seller did say it would need brake work. I discovered the upper caliper bolt on the left front caliper was missing and the caliper was rotated back such that the pads weren't engaging the rotor fully, I suspect that the pads were being pigeon toed, the piston was also out of proper alignment and is not moving smoothly, so I'll be replacing the front calipers and pads before long. Probably will do the rears too.

There was an incredibly loud (I.e., deafening), short duration suspension related howl or squeak. Turns out the front sway bar had shifted to the right enough that the left side end was rubbing the frame, A few whacks with a small sledgehammer got it back in alignment.

I suspect the clutch might be near the end of it's service life. It's engaging / disengaging at the very top of the pedal stroke.

It ran great. I'm not familiar with the quirks of the 4.0 engine, but the temp gauge showed 205* - 210*. I'm not sure if that should be a concern.

Replaced the blown subwoofer with this one. Pretty easy job. I had to remove some of the subwoofer box ribs and the plastic trim on the back of the speaker for a flush fit. I installed it with red/brown as the positive leads and black/gray as negative. Sounds much better even with the stock amplifier.

Bolted the Uniden CB to the remains of the molle rack in my 06 TJ this weekend. Quite happy with how unobtrusive it is up there. May grab a small section of cable organizer tube to hide the wires coming in once I SWR tune the antenna.

The rack does a nice job of keeping the sunshade webbing up.

I put some padding up there in restock the wind flap of the vinyl top. You can test it with just a folded terry towel, you will be surprised on how well it does on freeway noise.
