What did you do to your other vehicle today?

Ugh. One engine I dislike more than my first-gen, 2-valve 5.4L Triton is the second-gen, 3-valve 5.4L Triton. Of course, I don't dislike the first-gen enough to sell my Expedition. :ROFLMAO: May the force be with you!

It's ironic. The 5.4l triton is widley hated. But, its been trouble-free for 300K (obviously up until now), but the venerable 4.0L failed me at 123k. I have to say my 05 F150 has been the best vehicle by far. Can't say the same for our 07 yukon with the 6.2l. While the 6.2 is my favorite engine, it leaks like a sieve and has been an electrical nightmare.(love the truck though).

Really the only issue I've had with my 2-valve 5.4L is the spark plug threads. That simple design flaw has cost me more than $10,000 keeping the truck running. It's a long story that I've alluded to on this forum more than once, so I'll give the short version. One plug popped, I installed the insert kit on all 8. Then a few years later, two plugs popped with the inserts still attached, stranding me out of state for three weeks while waiting for a shop to replace the engine with a Fraser "rebuild" (hint: I think it was just a cleaned-up junkyard engine). Then that Fraser engine was "repaired" and/or replaced several times, not completely under warranty, until I gave up on Fraser doing the right thing and put a Ford reman engine in it myself. And I even had a problem with the Ford engine - it came with an F250 oil pan on that was too deep. So, the bad taste in my mouth is really from a very unfortunate series of coincidences. If not for the spark plug issue, I'd be very happy with it.

That's what I wanted when we bought the Expedition (it was sold to us, untitled with 5k miles on it in 2002). The Excursion was in the middle of its production run then. At the time, we were moving to Connecticut (narrow, busy roads) and I was getting a company vehicle with a new job, so it was to be my wife's car, and it was all I could do to talk her into the "huge" Expedition. I mentioned the Excursion and got "the look." The secret to being married for over three decades - heed "the look"! ;)

If only I'd have been able to talk her into the Excursion...

Tore into the 300k mile 2005 F150 5.4l to retrieve the timing chain guides and hopefully get another 100k after a timing job.

Finished up the timing. New lash adjusters, roller followers, hi volume oil pump, water pump, and fan clutch. This thing has NEVER been this quiet. The absolute BEST part(by a country mile), is my 15yo daughter and i did it. It's now her truck :)

Actually my niece’s vehicle. Changed the oil and filter in her 4Runner. Had to remove a skid plate to get the oil filter. It’s from Alaska, first time in a while I’ve had to work on something with that much rust. Wasn’t a lot but certainly more than I am used to. Some of those little bolts were a little stubborn. One cool feature is there is a plug on the bottom of the oil filter housing. You remove it, the new filter comes with a plastic adapter you screw in, it pushes up some sort of internal plug and the drains out of the filter housing.
 
Just stumbled across this topic. I’m finally winding up a 9-month (so far) refresh, repaint, & update of my ‘68 El Camino SS. I finally got the stereo install wrapped up so I can put the interior all back in.

That's awesome! Funny thing many years ago I looked at a red El Camino out there, can't remember the exact year. The guy lived in Vail and we met at Webb's Steak House. Can't exactly remember why I didn't buy it either. Must have been close to 40 years ago!

Do you do any of the trails out there? I know there's not a lot right in the area that go anywhere but I like the one by the Colossal Cave State Park that goes past the primitive camping area, wish it went all the way through to Pistol Hill Rd. though.

I actually bought this car when it was still on its second red paint job over two blue paint jobs. And up by Sacramento, CA. I’ve had it about eight years and was still living in CA when I found it.

Sadly, I’ve not been out on any trails in the Jeep yet. I’m still ironing out some minor wrinkles before testing it out. We bought a side-by-side after we moved out here and haven’t used that much either. Just short jaunts into the AZ Land Trust areas to the south of us.

If you get a chance try out that trail that goes by the camping area, it's surprisingly primitive and wanders along the river bed, crossing at times and you're actually in the river bed for one stretch. Once you get to the gate though you have to turn around. There's an old historic camp there. If it wasn't for that gate you could go all the way to Pistol Hill Rd but you can come in from the other direction to check out that section.

When your TJ is ready hit me up if you want to do some trails like the Oracle Control Road from the top of Mt Lemmon down past Peppersauce Cave and Arizona Zip Line Adventures where they have some good burgers.

PS done paint/body myself when I was younger and still do a little now and then.

Not my daily driver, but had to pull the differential/hydrostatic unit in my Cub Cadet to resolve an oil leak I've been putting off for a few years.

What model Cub Cadet? Looks like an older well-made one. I work on small engines as a side business and love the old garden tractors. They are worth rebuilding over the junk sold in stores today. I'm currently going through a 2000 John Deere 345 to use for myself.

It's an 1811, wide frame from the late 80's. When the original twin Kohler wore out, I repowered it with a kit using a B&S Vanguard.

My latest challenge is now that I have it back together, it now won't start unless I jumper across the starter solenoid. I think I repowered it about 12 years ago. This is the first time I had any problems since then, other than a flat tire.
 
Replaced all the strut assemblies on the wife's 2015 Honda CR-V almost two years ago. A little over a year later, the right-rear strut started making a God-awful squeaking noise, the type of noise dry rubber bushings have been known to make. Finally got to dropping the assembly today, disassembling the strut (been a while since I've used a coil spring compressor), and applying some Sil-Glyde silicone grease to the rubber surfaces. Reassembled, and not a peep from the strut on the test drive.

Life is good. ;)
 
The JKU started making a rattling noise, so yesterday I removed the serpentine belt and spun all the pulleys and tensioner's. Water pump was the only one making a slight noise.

With the belt off I started it up and no noise, ruled out the timing chain.

Bought a water pump today and had it replaced and test driven in an hour and 20 minutes.

3.8 with an electric fan makes things quick!!!!
