So I have a set of half doors with sliding upper halves on my tj I was wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to take the vinyl off and weld sheet metal the the metal frame in the place of the vinyl while keeping the plastic and glass to the windows

Why wouldn't it be possible? If you have a welder, metal, and the skills, then of course it's possible.

Yes. What you do is take the vinyl off and weld sheet metal to the the metal frame in the place of the vinyl.

The tricky part is keeping the plastic and glass to the windows. I imagine a frame riveted to the new sheet meal uppers with the original window assembly sandwiched in between.
