I noticed I have watter dripping from the front of the catalytic converter. No check engine lights. Smells like exhaust fumes (the water that is) and it looks like there is a pinsized hole in the front of the cat, on t he bottom, at the weld. Jeep runs fine. Should I be concerned? I know that one of the byproducts from the cat is water, so I'm assuming wither a small hole as rusted through or perhaps a facotry drain hole??

Refresh my memory. The 98 tj only has the one cat after the manifold. Does it have the second cat before the muffler like my 04?

One of the many chemical byproducts of burning gasoline is water. Once the exhaust piping gets hot enough, that water will evaporate out the tailpipe. Until then, that water will condense and pool in the low spots.

If it's just water dripping and it smells like exhaust, it could be due to condensation building up inside the exhaust system (especially if you've been driving at low speeds or short trips), which is normal.

If you’ve noticed a pin-sized hole at the weld on the catalytic converter, this could indicate that the cat is rusting or has been compromised. While it's possible that the hole is simply a factory drain hole, it's more likely that it’s a result of rust or corrosion over time, especially if the Jeep has been exposed to moisture, road salt, or general wear and tear.
