I bought this winch used with the free spool not functioning. It works great otherwise.
It turns about 1/4 ways before it won’t go any further.
Do any of you guys know how to fix this? Would warn warranty it?

Any help appreciated thanks

Lack of grease and likely some rust in that side. It isn't really broken most likely, it just isn't moving the clutch and don't force it or you can break the free spool lever.

Blaine is correct. A bit of corrosion is the first thing to check for. You will want a tube of grease and the two gaskets for the gear box before you take it apart.

Yes ended up being super corroded inside. Cleaned it up and regreased it and was good to go. I ordered the replacement gaskets from Amazon.

My buddy working on me just texted me this. It appears that the gear (planetary) that engages with the freespool gear (actuated by lever) doesn’t sit deep enough in the gearbox. Which is causing the issue with the freespool action.

Dr Blackjack, I have my spool side off my XD 9000 I as it was very stiff to move. As suspected, the grease was really crusty but not much water intrusion or rust. I bought gaskets, but mine look pretty good so I am thinking about greasing it up, and saving the gaskets for next time!
You mentioned a tube of grease, so does that preclude me from using whatever is currently in my grease gun? Or should I have something special?

Biggest requirement is that the grease needs 5% moly. There are several good choices out there.

This is a good read.
