Turn signal issue

My 2004 TJ has started having an issue with the right turn signal. When I activate it, I get the fast blinking. If I turn on the headlights, the right arrow on the dash lights up and stays lit. I went around and checked all the bulbs on the right side and all appear to be good. Also, no corrosion on the sockets. My next thought was the multi function switch, so I replaced that but nothing changed. I noticed that there was some very slight melting on the plug that goes into the multi function switch, but I'm not sure if it's bad enough to cause this issue and need replacement. One other thing I noticed is that when the right turn signal is blinking, the front turn signal light is dimmer than on the left and when I have the headlights on, that light doesn't go on at all. Does anyone have a suggestion on what else I can look at for a cause?

I had a similar issue, ended up the mfs plug needed to be replaced.

I tested the grounds by the headlights and they both appeared to be good so I went ahead and ordered a replacement MFS plug. Hopefully that will fix the issue.

Here's another good reference...

I replaced the MFS plug and the issue is still the same. It needed replacing though because it crumbled as I tried to work on it. Does anyone know if there is another plug along the wiring harness between the MFS and the bulbs? If not, I think I'm going to need to trace the wires and look for a broken one. I picked up an Autel Powerscan tool, but I'm still learning how to use it, so aside from using it to test the grounds I'm not sure where else it would be useful.

These Turn Signal schematics for your year TJ should assist you in further troubleshooting your problem.

@CharlesHS not sure if you know this, but shift+ctrl+cmd+4 will put you into a screen grab mode where you can drag a rectangle over the section you want. That way you don't have to capture your entire screen.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. The issue ended up being a bad ground like CharlesHS had suggested. There are 2 wires that run into the ring terminal next to the radiator and somehow only 1 of them had stopped conducting even though it was still connected. Cutting off the old ring terminal, stripping the wires back a bit and adding a new one fixed the issue.

Did you find a fix for your turn signal problem?

Never mind. Saw that you did. I had the same problem, fast blinking right turn signal. Turned out to be a tarnished electrical contact in the right front turn signal. I applied a little muriatic acid on the contact with a small acid brush, let it sit for 30 seconds and then flushed it with water from a squeeze bottle. After blowing it out with compressed air the contact looked like new! Worked like a charm.
