Turbo Kit Test TJ

Here's why we need decent TJ turbo kits on the market...this guy struggled to install an eBay special and ended up highly modifying the install.

I pointed him to Texas Jeep Products and the forums...that explains why the kit isn't on your website anymore.

Still dreaming of making something special for my 97. I want to tig up a custom exhaust manifold and intake that incorporates the turbo right there on the driver's side... minimum pipe lengths to minimize lag. Factory location for the downpipe.

FYI, I notice no lag with the Banks water-to-air intercooler, and that’s no exaggeration (lag would be super annoying). I’d imagine Jezza’s design is good to go as well.

Combine the sling shot of power with properly tuned outboarded Fox factory racing series 2.0 shocks (preferably with DSC), and it’s a really enjoyable experience.

Still looking for a good guide to how to use the DSC on my 2.0s. Haven't touched the dial yet.

I don't know what's good for street vs what's good for rocks vs what's good for go fast.

Thanks for the update. Have been considering this kit but now have my concerns if Racing Solutions cannot be trusted as a vendor. Hopefully we will hear back from those that have been able to purchase from them successfully or unsuccessfully.

Hopefully some good news here. I purchased the jigs and parts for the kits from them. They are supposed to be making 3 kits for me currently, and after that I will see what can be done to make more kits either in my facility or in a 3rd party. It's going to take some time to get this up and running, but there is progress.

Now that mine has new rings, add me to the list of interested customers. I'm local and a pretty decent CNC op. if you need a hand.

At this point wouldn't be easier just to find a part out 2000+ and pull the necessary ancillaries/brackets to upfit your 97? I am in the same boat since I have a 99 but haven't completed my research yet on switching over all the ancillaries and changing to coil on plug. Seems to be a common theme as the 99 is kind of a transition year and most any turbo/SC kits only cater to 2000+ due to the need for ignition control.

Or just take the engine transmission wiring harness and PCM out of the rusted out 2000 Sahara I have with cruise control and plop them in my Jeep.

Yeah but AC still gonna be in the way of this kit, thus thinking complete ancillary swap.

If you don’t have AC, that location seems like it would be a good place for a pro charger. I did a quick search but didn’t find anyone who’s done that.

If you're looking at a ProCharger then why not just go with a roots style huffer? Things may have changed but I thought I'd read there was more "lag" with a ProCharger style supercharger compared to a roots style...

If you're trying to plumb in a innercooler Avenger superchargers used to offer one. I'm sure it'd be more of a PITA....

Even with no AC? The up pipe/downpipe make it crowded with a distributor?

I think so. The less hot side piping the better. Having the turbo on the passengers side makes for a lot of extra piping. I would use a similar intercooler to the later kit, but maybe with same side inlet and outlet. Log exhaust manifold also make lots of low end torque and decent spool. They are usually tough as nails as well.

Well latest update. I am moving into a new shop to focus on the Jeep parts more. As part of the deal I got the jigs and build parts for the kits. I am going to start producing kits in the next month or so to have in stock and ready to ship. I am also planning on producing a '97-'99 kit as well using some of the same parts and design.

Now I'm curious, if you don't mind sharing, how many kits are you expecting to move? I would have figured this is a very low volume niche market product that was build-to-order only.

It's nothing to get wealthy off of, but it's enough kits with my other parts and things to be worth it.

Awsome. I'm just glad there's enough interest in these Jeeps for people like you to be making products. The TJ seems to be in that weird middle ground where it's heading toward classic status, but it's not quite there.
