Trouble with slip shaft

Hello all,

After fixing several things, I was working on getting the transmission skid plate installed and exhaust installed, and you can see the slip shaft dropped out.

Now one more issue to work through. There is evident spline damage on both sides so I need some repairs here. Most everything I can find points to moving to a slip yoke eliminator.

This is on a 2006 LJ that is stock, no lift.

Is there a way to repair this, or to get these parts? Or is it prudent to go slip yoke eliminator?

Short term, I’d see about running a file to make sure no burs, clean it up, and put it on. A stock drive shaft isn’t too expensive and I would bet a local ds shop can fix without a full replacement.

You can absolutely get a SYE, but that means a new driveshaft anyway, because you’ll need one that isn’t a slip yoke end.

Looks like someone flexed to almost losing the DS.

The T case end looks Ok to me save a good cleaning. The DS, weird. Over flex to where it almost fell out on a stock rig? Are you planning on lifting it? If not Id not bother with the SYE or its cost, just a new DS or repair the end.

Thank you for the advice. I will try to clean it up and reinstall. It fell out while trying to align skid plate for installation.

Ouch. Id try cleaning up the female end with a fine file, clean it real good and slip it on the T case end and see/feel if its real smooth and slides easy. Looks like the splines were mismatched and forced to go with no luck.
