I have 2000 4.0 5 speed manual (ax 15 from 97) and I think the fluid level is low becouse of hard shifting.

What is recommended for transmission oil as I am looking for something not expensive and will make smooth shifts?

Can I use engine 10w30 oil for it? BTW I live in middle east redline MTL is not available

10-30 should work fine. If you can splurge a little I would suggest royal purple or pensoil synchromesh. As you already know the best option though is Redline.

One thing I will recommend though is after you drain the old fluid out, fill it with kerosene and and jack the rear end up and let it run in gear for a little while and clean any gunk out. Drain it back out and let it dry THOROUGHLY, then refill with the fluid of your choice.

When I bought my 5 speed NV 3550 TJ it shifted really rough. I drained and refilled with redline and it was marginally better but still rough. So the next weekend I flushed it as I described and refilled again with redline and the difference was night and day.

Can I use gasoline instead?

I wouldn't want to risk that, 1. gasoline has zero lubricating properties and 2. any spark and your transmission might just become a large grenade. Better to at least use diesel which does have some lubricating properties and is not volatile like gasoline and is similar to kerosene.
