Topless Security

^^ this…and not to derail the thread, my dad got his CCW in IL which is not easy , but it forced him to get basic firearms training (he’s now probably up to 100+hrs of class and live fire) VS GA which is constitutional carry and any idiot can walk out the store with a firearm.

I grew up around guns, hunting and recreational shooting.

Went into the military and qualified expert before we actually had to qualify. This was using old Vietnam M-16's that were pretty much shot out.

Con-Carry I have no problem with, I just think everyone needs to completely understand that a gun is a responsibility.

Taking someone's life is never an easy thing.

Guns are icky

Firearm use and safety should be taught in schools. And we need to start growing better quality humans, the education system (as well as some parents) are failing our children. Never had school shootings when I was of that age, and we had more than one truck in the parking lot with gun racks in the back window (and they weren't empty, either).

Might be surprised at the number of younger suicide victims and mass shooters who were prescribed one or more potent prescription drugs prior to the event. But they don't want to talk about that because the gov't is in bed with the medical insurance companies, health care systems and pharmaceutical companies....and most mainstream lefty media is sponsored by the latter....

I won't even bother getting into the brilliance of "gun free zones". Literally like shooting fish in a barrel.

Seems they shut up about the Chief's parade shooting once they found out it was juveniles with illegal guns. Didn't quite fit their narrative and agenda.

Never want the .Gov teaching my children anything about guns, that's the parents responsibility all the way.

This I whole heartedly agree with, to many kids sitting around playing video games and not running and playing.

Being in my 60's when I was a kid, after school if I wasn't working on the farm or playing baseball. I was in the woods!!!!!

I was a loner and loved the woods and the animals on the farm, heck I understood the animals and the woods better than I did people.......... still do most days!!

People that have only shot stuff in video games have no clue what taking a life, be it human or animal, even comes close to feeling like.

I couldn't disagree more. Parental gun skills are too variable, neither of my parents knew anything about guns. Nothing at all. Leaving all firearms training to a father or mother would be a huge (!!!) mistake.

And no one said training should be provided by the government. There are too many private firearms training courses that teach solid fundamentals, something few parents can. I received military firearms training but I received better self-defense training from private instructors.

To me, not requiring some form of formal firearms training to have a realistic level of training and safety for those who want to carry is insane. My own state Florida just removed the requirement that gun purchasers have some formal training and that scares the crap out of me. Even driving a car requires formal training but not carrying a gun? When I obtained my CA CCW then FL CCW I had to show them proof I had passed a firearms safety course. Not even that is required now in FL. Again, that really scares the hell out of me.

Here's just one basic example... a thought process a non-trained individual is not going to be thinking about in a shooting situation is what's in front of and behind what he's about to shoot at? What will he hit if he misses or the bullet passes through the target? An innocent person?

That's only part of the kind of training an untrained shooter is not going to get. And nope not much of this is common sense for the many idiots out there.

The best advice I can offer is to go with something by Tuffy. I've been using Tuffy security products for my TJs since 97-98, it'd take a determined thief to get into them. https://tuffyproducts.com/products/?page=1

BFH and a decent chisel say otherwise. If you want a less destructive way just get the number off the lock and use the corresponding key.

Jerry I guess I might have misunderstood @chili_pepper post, when he said taught in schools. I took it as public school systems.

If the parents have no interest in guns, but their child does, they can invest in good training classes for them.

I guess I look at things differently being born and raised in the South and also living in the county during my formative years.

I want less government and more freedoms.

I grew up very rural and have been around guns all my life and was lucky to hunt alongside my dad.

My ex grew up in a little less rural school but they took hunters safety classes, I had to take them outside of the school system, during their PE classes. They shot guns and bows. Other than that her family was extremely ignorant when it came to guns.

Mrs App grew up in the city, her only exposure to guns was when she’d see one in the trash can at her school. She grew up knowing nothing about them, neither did her parents. When she met me she wanted to learn. I don’t know what all I take for granted so I wouldn’t teach her. I found her a female NRA instructor for one on one sessions. She loves to shoot now.

I think exposure to firearms is something everyone should be taught in school from the safety and familiarization perspective, so that if a firearm is found it’s handled appropriately. Self defense training is a whole different animal.

Many schools near me also have trapshooting teams which is becoming more popular and I see that as a good thing.

I forgot Mrs App also had to take hunters safety but as a 30 year old taking it with a bunch of 12 year olds. Gotta take it to get a hunting license here.

We have to take it to get a license here too, but it's available as an online course so I took it as a 25 year old, at my desk at work. 🤣

It'll keep the casual stop-by thieves away (or hammering), but if you have traveling car door checkers like my neighbor has (and I'm in a border suburban/rural area) they could circle back with that data...

Tuffy would be better served putting that # on the lock lung, not the cylinder. And if you lose the Key, you drill...

Appreciate the comment because I have a Tuffy under seat drawer sitting on-hand to go in my Jeep and I'll pic then grind off that #. (y)

They won't just sell you replacement keys. You have to send then proof of purchase if bought from a vendor or if from them directly they'll have your information. It's also how you can get lock cylinders all keyed alike. All my Tuffy products have been keyed alike so I only need one key.

Back when I first started buying Tuffy products they came with barrel locks but then switched to the slotted keys. It's supposedly more secure?

Good to know!

Will likely still follow through with removing the #s.

Write it down and store somewhere safe... I have enough spare keys now that I don't think it's an issue anymore. And BTW they will key the push button locks on the drawer to match the regular locks. I have 5 different storage boxes and only need one key.

1) Overhead console
2) Underseat driver seat drawer
3) Fenderwell boxes
4) Rear midsize drawer
5) ConFer rear half box keyed with Tuffy lock cylinders.

Had a center console too until I installed the GR console.
