Good Morning,

I recently installed used full doors on my 98 TJ. The passenger door works fine, but the driver-side door needs a new outer handle. The outer handle just flapped around and didn't activate the door mechanism. I installed a new inside handle (which seems to work fine) and an outside handle. However, the outside handle doesn't work; I can only pull the handle open for approximately about an inch and a half. I sprayed PB Blaster on all of the inside door components, and still, there was no luck. Any suggestions?

Very Respectfully,
Paul

you can start with using the screwdriver in place of the striker and verify if the problem is with the striker or the latch. IT just might be a bit offset and not letting it release.

I just tried using the screwdriver in the latch, but now it is stuck shut and won't release. I tried moving the rods that are attached to the latch and they are moving, but it still won't release. I sprayed some WD40 on it and I am letting it sit for about 30 minutes. My next thoughts are to take out the latch and see if it moves on its own to see if its the latch or the rods....

Hi all, similar issue here. Door handle flaps loose after snapping one cold morning. The handle doesn't engage the mechanism. I took the door panel off and managed to pry the latch lever back onto the mechanism but it slips off onto the wrong side to engage if I apply any force. Have sprayed with WD-40 and all the rods work fine. Anyone any ideas for a temporary fix to keep the latch engaging the mechanism?

Cable ties. In fact even though I ordered the proper clips mine are still cable tied... nothing more permanent than a temporary fix that works!
