The interior door handles on my 2006 Jeep TJ keep breaking. The OEM one was fine for 20 years until the orange clips that hold the rods in place broke. Going back, I would have kept the OEM handle and just replaced those clips, but I stupidly threw it out and tried to replace the entire handle. I am on my third Autozone interior handle, couldn't find another one anywhere but the cheap ones on Amazon.

I think the reason the plastic on these handles keeps snapping is because for whatever reason, I have to pull it all the way before it actually engages, almost as if the metal rod inside the actuates the linkage isn't long enough. Is there a way to adjust this? Anything else I should look at? I know the Dorman Autozone handles are made of cheap plastic but I think something else is wrong to cause it to break 3 times in a row. My passenger handle does not require me to pull the handle that far out to engage the mechanism. Thoughts? Bent linkage?

I've had a Dorman in my drivers side for like 3-4 years now, and yeah I think you're right something else is going on.

My original one broke because it was just so hard to pull - inside and out. I brakekleened all the joints and lithium greased them to make it easier and it has lasted. It could be bent linkage, it could need adjustment (I think I remember at least one being threaded and adjustable?) based on how far you have to pull it. You'll have to pull the door card and start looking.

Cable ties and Kroil fixed up my 97...
