Hey guys, roommate got a 1997 tj with the 4.0/5spd combo that didnt run. Read the codes, poked around a bit and got it to run after replacing the distributor and coil. Now it idled smooth but wouldnt accelerate at all or go over about 15mph, backed it into the garage, shut it off and now it wont start again. It isnt throwing any codes but the check engine light comes on while cranking and the check gauges light comes on as soon as you stop cranking. Based on what i felt on the very short test drive around the block i would say the timing is severely retarded and yet it shouldn't be based off the service manual instructions.
Before you ask the standard stupid questions yes i set it to tdc on cyl #1 before starting, yes im aware that you cant adjust timing on this system, yes the plug wires are all attached in the proper firing order.
I'm at a loss here someone help me out.
