The good news thread

FINALLY got fiber at the house! HUGE upgrade from DSL!

The DSL wasn't that terrible when it worked like it should, it just rarely worked like it should. Rain and wind would slow it down tremendously.

We have had Allow coming through our neighborhood. We were on vacation when they came down our street, and a neighbor said they broke our water service.

Eli's soccer team is still finding their way on Astro Turf. They were shut out, 2-0. What they did succeed in doing was getting some respect from the opposing team and their coaches. The boys put a good scare into the other team. That team has never scored less than five points in a game.

If you've ever seen Goodwood racing on YT, Eli's the 1964 Galaxie 500 XL and the opposing team are the pesky BMC Mini's. Most of the kids on the other team didn't come up to Eli's shoulders. They were on him like stink on shit at first, but after a few got set on their butts, hard, they kept their distance. E spends most of his time on defense but spent the last 10 minutes on offense. He got one good shot at the goal. The goalie caught it in his chest and went down but the kid managed to keep hold of the ball. Props to that kid, because we all heard E make contact with the ball and heard the goalie go, "OOOOFFFF!" when it hit him.

I think we get a two week break from hockey and soccer for the holidays.

Pretty proud of Owen and what he did last night.

Last night was the first time O was able to go roller skating with me since school and hockey season started. When other skaters see his speed and moves, they tell me how good he is at it. I just say I want to be him when I grow up.
Anyway, he's going through a growth spurt and has an appetite to match. He went to get a candy bar from a vending machine and got two instead of one. He was a bit upset when I said that he was one up on the vending machine. He took the extra candy bar to one of the staff to give it back. They let him keep it.
The better thing was that there was a woman about 30 on the rink floor that was obviously on skates for the first time. She was struggling. Owen skated up to her and asked if she wanted some help. O skated with her for about twenty minutes and got her somewhat smoothed out. I think he helped her confidence, too. As O and I were getting ready to leave, she came up to O to thank him for his help, then told me that we've all done a good job raising him right. Out of earshot of O, I told her that both he and his brother are very good kids, but they still can be Richards.

Incredible post, my friend. You have a lot to be proud of with those two grandsons! (y)

Well, hell. He got a phone number tonight.🤣

O was flying around the rink. I mean 'Holy Shit' fast while I'm more like 'I'm old, I don't wanna fall' speed. A lot of times other kids try to chase him down. Some catch him, most don't. Today, a guy about his Mom's age took off after O. This guy was built like a fire plug and could move. It looked like he might be successful catching his quarry but got his feet tangled and he went down. Hard. He hopped right back up but went to sit for a bit. I went over to see if the guy was alright. He was fine and I told him he was pretty lucky because when I went down like that, they carried me off the rink with a broken ankle.

While we were talking, O skated up to us and asked if he was OK because O had heard about his wipeout and because I was talking to him. The guy introduced us to his little girl. She's a year younger than O and they hit it off pretty well. Her Dad suggested they exchange numbers so she can invite O to her upcoming birthday party.

When I dropped O off, I told his Mom that he got a girls' phone number and she looked at O and said, "Oh, really? Eli's going to be so jealous." 😁

buddy I don't think I've ever laughed as hard as I did when reading the story you wrote about one of them hollering wrecking ball and hitting himself in the nuts :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: Every time I see your screen name I think of that story and cry laughing so hard !

More Owen and Eli.

The boys are having a sleepover at grandma and grandpa's last night. Their parents come in with them to BS with us for a while. I'm sitting on the couch yakking with their dad when Owen comes up to us and asks if we want to see his new trick. We said, "sure." So, Owen clasped his hands together, raised them over his head, yelled "Wrecking Ball", and slammed his clasped hands into his nuts. Then collapsed on the floor. His dad says, "Owen, What the hell is wrong with you?" Me, I looked at his dad and said it comes from your side.

Eli plugged the toilet.
Not a little 'oops'. But a full fledged, "how did something so goddamn big come outta of you and plug the crapper' clogging. It took almost an hour to break that puppy loose. I swore a few times but I had to assure Eli that I wasn't swearing at him. Nothing will get the swears flowing like having the rotating auger come flying out of the shit colored water and fling ick over the auger operator and the walls. I could hear Mrs. Cheesy giggling each time it happened. I finally got it broke loose and part of it jumped up in the bowl and startled me. Ever see 'The Monster That Challenged The World'? Yeah, it was like that.

I haven't been that glad to take a shower since I learned not to spread manure in a strong tailwind, fifty some years ago.

And for anybody that missed it and wants a good laugh here it is ! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Owen and I went skating again today. Damned if he didn't meet another young lady. A blond.
I have been trying to get Owen to play some of the rink games like 'Red Light, Green Light' since we started going to the rink together. He's always "Nope". Today, Quinn, the young blond lady, asked him to go out on the floor for 'Red Light, Green Light' with her. And he did. After that, they skated together the rest of the session. I dunno. 9 years old...
He sure didn't get that talent from me. I went to a very small school when I was his age and what few girls were there acted like I had cooties. Told his mom that she should keep an eye on him.

I didn't get to see the games Saturday because I was out of town, but both Eli and Owen's teams won for once. And won big. Owen scored a hat trick in a 5-3 win. Eli scored two goals in an 8-5 win. Eli also earned a blue card for a 2 minute trip to the bad boy box for...tripping another player. When asked by grandma after the game if he actually did trip the opposing player on purpose, Eli responded, "I'm innocent until proven guilty" with a shit eating grin on his face. The smart assery is strong with that one.

Owen has another game this afternoon.
