The good news thread

That's a cool retirement job! Hell that's a cool job period! 👍
Good news for me!
After 2 years into retirement I started working 2 days a week at my local gun store for something to do.
Never asked what the pay is and still don't know or care, but my first day I found out I get EVERYTHING at cost.
Gee, I sure hope I can afford to work there!
Picked up this discontinued Wilson Combat Adjuster suede lined Kevlar paddle holster for my S&W 4506 for $25.00 bucks on Saturday, they retailed for $250.00 new.
Image won't load, I'll try later.

That’s one of the best part time jobs I’ve heard of! Congratulations!! 😸

Finally got it to load, yay, but here's the holster I was talking about.

It's been a year since I had the left hip revision surgery, and I can't be happier how it turned out. I started searching for another part time job. I've kept an eye on the local Craigslist and Indeed site. I've also been checking on jobs through the county and the city. I put a application in to the county for a job at a county dump transfer station. The location is about an hour drive east of my house. I was contacted for a interview a couple weeks ago, but didn't have the right qualifications.
I had also applied for a city job around the same time working at our local transfer station that's only 15 minutes from my house. I was contacted for a interview and did that one last week. Turns out that the city was looking for someone to work with the mulch making crew. City residents get to take all of our yard debris there for free and they turn it into potting soil and mulch and resale it. I got email yesterday that I was accepted for the job, and I'm waiting for the bureaucratic wheels to turn so I can do a background check for pre hire.

Bicycle accident last December gave me a 4 mile ride to the ER in the bus.
(That all worked out and I'm back on the right side of things.)
Ended up with a bill for over $2800 and I didn't even get to hear the sirens.:(

Insurance payment to them was slow and/or not coming (for months), and I was getting late notices almost weekly (and penalties were adding up). Not good.
When I finally got the payout from my injury insurance, I just went ahead and paid the $$ a few months ago and stopped thinking about it.

Yesterday I received a reimbursement check for the full amount minus my $250 co-pay.
Now I have $2500+ in my account that I didn't expect and I feel pretty good about it.

It must be the Karma train rolling through Dan-ville.:giggle:

That's great. I had some big medical bills last year, and recently got a check from the hospital for overpayment. The amount was $8.70.

Been there, done that almost 20 years ago. But I had to get lawyers involved. My 8 hour visit to the ER was over $31K, not including the ambulance ride. 8 hours and they didn't even feed me. All I wanted was my medical bills covered and my bike replaced because, other than some severe road rash and 22 stitches, I wasn't seriously hurt. I ended up getting everything covered, the bike replaced, and $8K. The payout put a new roof on my house. All in all, I'd rather not gotten hit.

I've had stitches, and I've had a decent amount of road rash. Road rash sucks real bad.

You'll get no argument from me on that. I've showed the neighbor kids my scars when they're goofing around on their dirt bikes while wearing shorts. When that doesn't motivate them to at least put on a pair of jeans, I explain how they ER staff cleans the road out of the rash. That gets 'em squirming. 🤣

Earlier this week, I receive a piece of mail from Geico. Usually I'd just shred it as a sales pitch.

Luckily - I opened it and it was a check for $5.55 🤑 after a 'review of my account'. Funny thing is I moved my insurance from Geico at least 5 years ago...

Since yall have mentioned low checks, I got one form Blue Cross last year that stated $0.00. :ROFLMAO: For a few months leading up to that they had been sending me a bill for like $80, but every time I called the rep would say there's nothing due on my account, then a random check for nothing.

Insurance company efficiency , fully demonstrated .

Did you deposit it?

A bit on Owen and Eli today.

Today was Owen's first hockey game of the season. His folks opted to NOT do travel hockey this year, so he plays mostly local. Anywho, 30 seconds into the first period, Owen gets the puck and does a perfect lift over the goalies' shoulder for the team s first goal of the new season. They ended up losing 4-2 but it was a good game. With Owen not being on a travel team, he's the 'Old Guy' with the new group. Most of these kids are just starting out and Owen has been playing for 3 or 4 years.

Eli is still playing soccer and at 12 years old, wearing a size 12 shoe, weighing 150 lbs, and looking me in the eye, he is the biggest kid on his team. He divides his time between goalie and mid-back(?). He can boot the ball almost across the field from goal to goal. His team played a three game tournament this weekend. They tied the first game yesterday and needed to win by at least 2 points today to advance to the finals. They won 4-0, so they made it into the finals. They won the finals 2-1, getting both goals in the second half. Eli's boots from midfield set up both scores.

Pretty proud of those two knuckleheads.

I feel your pain... i dumped my bike the first summer riding, very fortunate to just walk away with stitches and some road rash. But once I heard the cost of the ride and that there would be no lights, I got a ride to the ED.

Hahaha

Ironically, my insurance finally paid the bill and I got $2800 back from the city of Huntington Beach.
I added that money to my 'side stash' and used it to buy the '14 Limited, which will replace the '07 Ultra.

This is a good thread!
