Tall & skinny or wide tires?

This is a terrible analogy. These tires are selected based on the ability to hold a certain number of G forces when the tire is at 300 degrees and if the track is oval, banked, road course or street course, and if wet or dry, concrete or asphalt, etc, etc, etc. These tires have zero to do with the thread. But if you notice, the pro's use skinnier tires in front. That is because a wider tire is much harder to turn in the corners under deceleration and may grip too much and throw the rear out of tow or the driver not able to turn the wheel.

From a basic physics perspective it's an excellent analogy, and the perfect counter to the "higher contact pressure grips better" claim, or the oversimplified high school physics friction equation that doesn't include contact area at all.

It's rubber gripping a surface, in an application where they're pushing limits and want to maximize grip. And while the front tires are smaller, they're all relatively short and fat.

I was having a discussion with my father in-law the other night about tire sizes and I was curious to see what you guys think. Or mainly if what he said was accurate and would make sense with TJ’s
He has a 2022 Gladiator and has the stock 33’s on them. We started talking about tires and how we both want to jump up to 35’s at one point. He started talking about Tall and Skinny tires and how they are better for off-roading. He said they avoided obstacles better and ride better. He also mentioned how they have more Pounds per square inch on the ground.
This isn’t the first time I’ve heard this. I have met/know quite a few people who LOVE skinny tires on their hunting rigs. Especially mid size trucks like Tacoma’s.
I’ve only ever ran 12.5 and have enjoyed the size of the 12.5. I do pretty mild off roading/camping so maybe it just depends on what you use your rig for. But after hearing a decent amount of people mention skinny is “better” I was curious for the consensus on here.

I run 33x10.5x15 BFGs on mine. My TJ is my daily driver so I appreciate the lighter tire for gas mileage. But I actually like the look much better too.
