I bought the Barnes and did the same thing Mike_H did. One thing we did differently is I buried my hitch receiver as deep as it would go, because I have an LJ and have 5 more inches to play with behind the fuel tank. I'd trust his more, because he has the gussets with holes for safety chains, whereas mine is really more for just a hitch carrier/basket. Also because I welded mine, and he welded his.

honest to goodness I didn't realize how that sounded until your response.
I put mine where it stops about 1/8" short of the tank support crossmember, so I wouldn't have to cut a hole in that one, too. Cutting a hole would have bought me maybe another 3/8" before the rim of the receiver tube bottomed out on the bumper face which didn't seem worth it at the time.

I think I would have butted it up to the second cross-member and given myself a second place to weld it in. That is my big concern about using a basket on mine is the twisting moment on the single cross-member. Having another place to anchor it would make it REALLY solid in that respect.

I wanted to keep it removable without chopping any more out of the outer crossmember so I was thinking about making a square "receiver" for the receiver, and bolt that to the inner crossmember so I didn't have to take a spatter shower. It wouldn't keep the tube from telescoping in and out but it would keep it from rocking up/down, twisting the bumper, which is the main weakness mine has right now. I've just been waiting until I get around to dropping the tank so I can access from both sides.
Not saying this is the best way to accomplish it. Just what my thought process was at the time...almost 2 years ago.
