Hey guys I have a 2006 4L and an odd noise that I can't really describe as a screech or rubbing but more like a sustained ringing or "beeing" noise. I seem to get this noise when I drive for a longer periods at a time but only when idling and/or parked. It also sounds like the "beeing" gets slightly muffled once I push the brakes does anyone have any ideas as to what that is? Thanks in advance.

Fill in your profile please. Without knowing what equipment your Jeep has (axels, transmission, transfer case, lift, aftermarket parts / accessories, etc.), it will be much more difficult to give a good diagnosis.

Not sure on the wrangler, but I remember disc brakes having a tab that when you reached a wear level needing pad replacement that would start to kind of whistle. Kinda seems like applying brakes would muffle sound.

Thanks for the ideas guys, ill take a look at my disc brakes then the opda. E-brake is all disengaged. I was also considering maybe it was a vaccum leak or an intake or exhaust gasket? I just dont know how that would slightly be muffled by braking. As for the tinnitus, hoping thats not it at my age, although you got me thinkin.

You might be onto something with the vacuum leak. Would make sense that the tone changes or goes away when you apply brakes because of the brake booster.

I think the correct way to check is with a smoke machine, but I think you can do something along the lines of spray down the hoses with brake cleaner with it running and listen for the idle to change to find a leak.

Alright ill be checking all this stuff on my next day off soon then guys, I appreciate all the ideas. Ill come with whatever info i get out of checking this stuff out.
