Split D-Ring Shackles, Opinions?

I was looking for a cheap kinetic rope in amazon (I was recently pulled by a friend a few blocks to my house because of a bad starter) and I saw these split d ring shackles, in which you won't need to remove them from your anchor point to be able to put your rope in it, they are a little more expensive but, what are your thoughts about these ones? there are several brands, which is not my question, more like the design of the shackles... thanks!

If you think about it it's not really a shackle but two J recovery hooks facing opposite directions. Since they have open ends and are not one solid piece I doubt they are as strong as a standard shackle no matter what they claim. I also don't like the non-radiused sharp edges for obvious reasons. I think this "shackle" is a gimmick.

I have several and usually use them, but when I need to be pulled from the front bumper the D-ring is what is on the bumper, or you mean that I should attach the soft shackle into the normal D-ring?

my thoughts as well.... if I need to be pulled from a different angle I wouldn't trust them as a normal dring shackle..

The soft shackle goes directly to the bumper. That is what they are for, among a dozen other things.

All the more reason to use a soft shackle. A side pull does not add leverage to the bumper the way a steel shackle does when it binds from a side pull.

These stacked J hook thingies are just more cute bumper jewelry to decorate your Jeep with.

Yes. Soft shackle to link D ring to your pull rope. Safest way.

looks like a knockoff of mooseknuckle, but it is an answer to a question nobody asked. When you are recovering another vehicle, slowing down is a good thing.

I agree with @jjvw, I think is only for the looks and more for a mall crawler, I think I would just keep using my soft shackles instead.. but, ey! worth the trend just to discuss it I think...

With those, you can't use them for any other rigging like a snatch block or line extension.

I have one standard shackle on my bumper with my winch cable, one on a receiver shackle mount and two soft shackles in my recovery bag.

Also, a kinetic strap/rope and a tow strap/rope are two different pieces of gear with different uses. I have one of each and two tree savers in there as well.

One strong argument against these stacked J hook things in favor of soft shackles is that with soft shackles nothing needs to be kept hanging on the bumper.

I hook my winch line to it since I run a standard hook that doesn't fit behind my license plate bracket very well.
