Dude...that is about the only way to have good music. Buy a set of Bose headphones and enjoy the ride. Skip the microphone - maybe the passenger will pick up on the idea.

No. You put it behind the front speakers. No enclosure is needed, but I did put it in an empty white throw pillow to reduce the potential of inhaling fibers. I stuffed all that behind the front speaker. If you add it behind the sound bar speakers, it will magnify the rear speakers.
OP I went with Polk DB5252 components and put the tweeters up on my dash to improve the soundstage to the listeners. Firing at the knees is a terrible sound stage
However if you can move the entire speaker top of the dash, that would be optimal
