Looking for feedback on a good spare tire carrier to mount my 33 on my 99 TJ. Im not interested in a swing out...more of a upgraded hinge on the rear door type. Any good ones out there?

Stock carrier with extra support. Very inexpensive - free. 🤫 My 35" spare with heavy steel wheel has been on for 8 years with ZERO negative effects on the stock hinges.

cavfab tire carrier that mounts to the jeep and door holds my 35s just fine. Only downfall is it does not work with the OEM tail lights

To Boogieman's point, I don't think there's much concern as I haven't had any issues either. My only concern with the weight on my hinges is when I use my tailgate. It is obviously heavier and I do need to slam it in order for it latch completely. I've thought about doing something....like the often mentioned MORryde tailgate reinforcement kit, I just can't justify the several hundred dollars to buy one when I use my tailgate once in a great while. If there was $100 option that was tried and true, I would likely do it, but not at $430.

p.s. If you want some nice $856 floor mats, @John Cooper can send you a link. 🥳
p.p.s. I think @AndyG sold him that Rubi way too cheap. He has too much extra cash that his wife doesn't know about. She needs more shoes and he's holding out. ;)

So it's all about supporting that weight whilst in transit. Are any of the prices shown there purchasable? I don't have the ability to fabricate stuff.

Please don't buy anything from Hooke Road.
They are import crap. You're better off with stock.

Rugges Ridge Spartacus HD Carrier
MoRyde.. the full Exegete or just eh HD hinges
Bestop High Rock 4x4 HD carrier, if you can find one.

That's really interesting. I was looking at the Hooke Road ones last night and thought they looked poor quality.

To be fair, I've never purchased any of their stuff because of the horrible reviews. Missing hardware, bent parts, cheap stamped steel..

OP wants it to hole the weight of the 33...

Cheap? Yes. For a reason

I went with the Morryde about a year ago, it's worked perfectly carrying heavy 35's with no sagging and super smooth operation. So far I'm very happy with it... and best part... no more swing out rattle!!!!
Picture then, and picture now.

I used to recommend the MORryde/Exogate but in the context of recent experience I have to add footnotes:

1. for onroad use only
2. if used offroad, provide means of protecting spare from contact with terrain during high-departure-angle maneuvers - essentially a "spare tire skid plate".

If you drop a spare onto a ledge with a tailgate reinforcement kit, it will transfer a significant portion of the energy to the tub. The Flux option may be better since the hinges aren't tied together on the gate and will allow the gate itself to twist and take most of the damage, but if you pair it with tailgate armor, you probably want to make sure you have tub armor as well.

I will be running a naked tailgate in all situations except where it's absolutely necessary, which is pretty much just when I wheel with my kids (since I can't strap it to the floor with a back seat installed).
