Snow wheeling pics '24-'25

Oh man, that's just amazing. I'll live vicariously through your guys adventures. Being retired and poor sucks hairy monkey balls.

Well if you're ever able to make it down here I've got an empty seat. My family has little interest in group rides.

If it is a distance thing and you are in the NW corner of the state, then feel free to hit me up sometime and we can find some trails in Tillamook or Mt Hood Forrest. I would even be down to go out to do some shooting too.

Yeah I've always got an extra passenger seat. Bonus points if you can hold a camera occasionally. I might not let you go home if you can figure out how to change a GoPro battery.

We should plan another outing. My November and December are full of stuff...what about a New Year's Day snow wheeling trip?

Finished editing...love feedback...might trim it up some more...got it unlisted for now, my next video slot is December 18th (yeah I have 10 fully edited videos queued up, publishing 2 a week)...Unless I slam this one ahead. My channel concept isn't YouTube algorithm friendly... mixing trash pickups, trail maintenance and wheeling.

That was great! I know that takes a lot of production work! Thank you!

I certainly enjoyed it, but of course I'm biased since I was there. The challenge is defining and figuring out your audience, and attention spans keep getting shorter and shorter. The teaser/intro was fantastic and I loved it, and that would have wider appeal.

I'd like to see what the video would be with a hard limit of 20 minutes. That's still a long-format video, but cutting out or speeding up the slow parts would keep more eyes on it.

Nice video, Mac. It could probably be edited down to 15min or so but I enjoyed the whole thing. So pretty up there in the snow.

Thinking about the JL recovery, I bet airing down would have gotten it done much quicker, even with airing back up. Of course hindsight is 20/20 and I didn't think it'd take much more than a quick tug to get them going again.

Most of what would have helped was getting the JL to steer correctly and stop spinning the wheels and digging fresh holes.

All part of why I want something to lock my brakes so I'm not stuck in the cab holding my foot to the floor.

There is a skill to being recovered. You never see Matt leave the customer in the car for the recovery because it has to be a team effort. The guy in the JL was trying to help, but him spinning the wheels was what was causing him to slide down the hill. As soon as you had him just let it roll, he popped right over the lip.

not sure I understand this

Imagine a couple of possibilities...one, you air down and that causes a pinch flat, rim or tire damage or debeads the tire...you could be liable for those damages.

Say the customer drives home and the tire fails...lawyer easily can make an argument that you messing with the tire caused the accident.

Less is more.

I've already had one jackass in a Toyota turn me into an insurance agency...mind you six months after the recovery and after they did considerably more damage to the truck.

Tow trucks always have a "not responsible for damages" waiver, and that's for an on-road tow.

Shitty people will do shitty things. Probably should record telling them "I'm not going to be responsible for any damages" and them agreeing before you do anything. I might even take my own advice here.

Oregon also has a good Samaritan law. But that really is only applicable to first aid...not really vehicle rescue... although a lawyer I talked with said it wouldn't be too hard to make an argument that leaving people stranded in the woods would cause a medical issue and you don't have enough space in your vehicle to safely evacuate them.

I just don't want to pay the lawyer to set new legal precedent.

I also think if I had brought my 30' kinetic rope...or daisy chained someone else's kinetic rope I might have been able to tug them out. 20' didn't give me enough room back to find traction or gain any momentum.
