2000 jeep wrangler Sahara 4.0, got the jeep on a trade deal a while ago and have slowly been fixing the issues on it. I have read and read the forums and Google searches about my issues I’m having. Before I send my pcm out to wrangler fix just want to make sure I try everything first. My issues are very intermittent I do have a grey key, every day when I start the jeep I get the key/skim light, but only very few times has it died within the 2 seconds of starting. When it dies I just re cycle the key and it will start right up run and drive just fine the key light will bounce off and on while driving it has never died while I’m driving. Sometimes I won’t get the key light at all and not have an issue with it. It’s very intermittent, and like I said I usually just re cycle the key if it dies on me and the jeep will start up and run just fine. I’ve replaced the battery terminals checked grounds and have tried a black key (which kills the jeep right after startup). I’m just curious if it’s possibly not a skim issue and more of an ignition issue maybe the pin or something? If anyone has any help I would appreciate it, if not I will send my pcm out to wrangler fix to see if that fixes my issue. Thanks.

Sounds like SKIS to me if your other key consistently fails to keep it running. Perhaps the connector to the SKIM (under the steering column cover) is a little bit corroded or loose?

Pulled it apart today to clean and check connections put a little grease on the connectors. Everything looked fine. Weird thing I even unplugged it and decided to see if it would start up start and ran fine just like normal, I thought the jeep for sure wouldn’t run with it unplugged but I did it multiple times. I tried the black key with the slim unplugged and it wouldn’t run which was the same as before. I’m stumped at this point it’s just more of an inconvenience and just don’t want to be left stranded. I plugged it back in as it was before. I’m just wondering if getting the skim deleted will even solve my problem.
