Share your favorite watch

I have a Breitling Blackbird that I bought when I received my first shareholder distribution check. I used to wear it more, but more recently I just wear it for special occasions.

This is one of my favorites. It was my grand pappy's, handed down to me from my dad. Some research showed it's an 1882 model. It needs a tune-up but unfortunately I haven't found anyone who does that any more, so unfortunately it hasn't been in use.

Finally showed this to my buddy. He said it probably needs a new winding. Said he fixes pocket watches all the time. He'd have to put his hands on it to give a proper estimate, but off the top of his head (and after a few drinks) a few hundred bucks depending on what it needs.

He fixes $5k+ luxury watches and super old pocket watches all the time though so this seemed well within his capability. Just out of curiosity I asked him how many people can do what he does in VA. He said only like 3-4. Everybody else (jewelers and the like) just replace batteries and replace the odd easy part. He has microscope looking things and crazy miniature machine tools like a little baby lathe and cute little drill press. He said he makes custom parts for things that aren't made anymore. His shop is pretty neat. I get the impression he caters to a well off crowd though and ain't cheap.

Was doing a search online today on Speedmasters and this old thread popped up, funny.
Well, since it was a fun thread, I decided to update it with the one watch I'd been waiting and searching for.
My 1863 mvt Hesalite Sandwich Speedmaster Pro. It wasn't easy to find in this condition, serviced and warranteed, but I had to have the Hesalite Sammy and just got lucky right before the Pro's jumped in price too. Looking at the adorned 1861 mvt and you see why?
Sadly, I have to force myself to wear the Speedy Mk40 now, first world problems :(

Honestly, I can't wait for my Galaxy watch to die. Im tired of the damn thing telling me "you're exercising" or You're bike riding or your walking.......whatever.

I want my Luminox Navy Seal Dive watch back. it gave me the time and date, and its pretty much indestructible. Unless you take it off and someone steals it

So I don't have a favorite per se, as I love watches and have 15-20. I will say I do prefer my watches to be all metal. I'm not a fan of plastic or leather bands.

Thread resurrection time. Getting ready for our upcoming trip to Egypt. Dug out the old Citizen NaviHawk, took it down to my jeweler for a new battery. Worked great - for 24 hours. Wonderful - its now a battery killer. Well, let's see what Citizen's repair center says about it - mailed it off.

3 weeks later, they wanted $450 to fix it, had to replace the entire movement, etc, etc. Well, its a beautiful watch, but not that beautiful, I paid $299 for it back in the day. Definitely want a watch for the trip, the ancient sacred sites don't have clocks, and probably don't have cell service either - and I don't wanna drag my flip out to them anyway. So I bought this from "Warrior Woman":

No more annual battery replacements, and if I don't wear it, I'll just leave it out somewhere to keep it charged and I'll probably never have to worry about it. It was less than half the repair cost of the old one. The leather strap sucks, a metal one will be here on Friday. Pretty remarkable tech actually, if it gets a full charge, it will run in the dark for 6 months! I didn't realize it, but Eco-Drive has been around since 1995.

Getting it registered for its 5 yr warranty was "interesting". All they had was goddamned QR codes for both the online manual as well as warranty registration. Its all about the PHOOOOOONNE!! Then they wanted my proof of purchase, so I grabbed the PDF from Amazon, and tried to upload it. It rejected the PDF!!! WTF?!? The site only accepted "image formats". Again, WTF? PDF is an image format, plus it is the STANDARD format for documents of all kinds. So I converted it to a PNG, and uploaded the thing. I can only assume that they assume that people would always take a picture of the paperwork with a PHOOOOOONNE.

I left them a polite message telling them how dumb that is - nobody will read it, and if they do, nothing will change - but it made me feel a bit better.

Repairing your old watch. Seems like Citizen was just giving you an "I dunno, replace all the guts" kinda answer. I have seen him fabricate and replace a single part before. Or at least take the time to figure out exactly what was broken and know what parts need ordering. Not saying he wouldn't give you the same answer or that a different answer would be any cheaper. Might though.

About what?
The Eco-Drive is a great watch, BUT if they don't stay charged (as in any solar) the "capacitor" goes dead prematurely and unless you know how to change it, their days are over.
Got me a G-shock just so I don't have to wear my luxury watches playing golf, I keep it in a glass top watch case, but eventually the capacitor will be toast and I'll just throw the watch away and get a new one.

Also added a NOS Seiko Sportura F1 Honda Racing watch too. Love these old Sportura's.

I got this Citizen TSUYOSA for Christmas. It has an Ecodrive movement, but is a mechanical auto-winding mechanism and not the electric version talked about above.

I have had a solar eco-drive Citizen for 5-6 years. It has spent months in a drawer. I have never had it not keep perfect time at soon as it gets clipped to my wrist.

Ah, ok. Citizen has it in their possession, and as far as I'm concerned, they can keep it.

This is true by all accounts, so I'm going to simply leave it out in a windowsill when I'm not using it. Apparently, changing the battery is trivial though. They stopped using capacitors years back, its some kind of super lithium-(something else) cell.

Funny work story.
Never really had a thang for watches but, when I worked and was a crew leader my guys always asked me what time it was. And it was mostly because they wanted to know when the official break time was coming up, as not to get caught by the middle-management scum.
So I just bought a cheap Timex wind-up and took the band off and kept it in my pocket.
Then cell phones came in to my life. So I super-glued that Timex to the forward/reverse lever on the Cat loader that I used to operate. And it stayed there for a few more years.

In my shop I have a clock that has no numbers hanging next to a clock that runs backwards.

I've nestled into this retirement thang real good.
