Setup for reverse winching

Anyone seen this video?

d-

I did. Setup looks like a PITA, requiring a fair amount of extra gear and anchor points. It's good to know how, but watching that help convince me to work on my setup.

Not to mention the greatly reduced pulling factor. All those redirects add friction, and you start with the main line pulling in the wrong direction with 0 loss. The force pulling you back with the snatch block is probably 1.5x what's pulling forward, so you're left with only 1/2 the force the winch sees pulling you in the direction you want to go.

I overloaded the prototype wood turning block and it split, sending to top chunk back into the forest from whence it came :ROFLMAO:

I considered mounting some type of snatch block pulley to the bumper, but:
1) I didn't want it to stick out past the bumper and be venerable to rocks, and
2) It would need to not be square to the bumper as there's elevation change between the winch and where it passes under the body.

I was satisfied with the pulling force I was getting from the wood block so I decided to keep it simple with a steel bollard.
An old 3" driveshaft volunteered for the task.

I figured I would need to cap it with a plate, but decided to use the ujoint flange as a cap. Cut the ears off with an angle grinder.

Cleaned the rust off and noticed the label. So I'll have a rare Spicer bollard!

My welder is a little craftsman 110 stick unit that I bought for $25. And I'm not a very good welder to start with. So looking at the beads all I can say is, "she's ugly, but she ain't going nowhere."

I could only reach 2/3 of the way around, but that should be plenty.

This looks like an accident waiting to happen to me. I could be wrong. D

Do you not have Jeep friends ?

Will see. I'll let yall know when something goes wrong!

If I only went out with other folks I'd get out 1/10 as much as I do.

It's fine to do a 180° redirect while dragging the rope across three surfaces. 🤣

Hey the 1st 90 is on a roller!
