I finally installed the Setrab dual pass trans cooler. I installed it so both ports were on the right side. This worked out very well and made routing and connecting hoses quite simple.
The argument for in/out on the opposing corners is to make the fluid spend as much time inside the exchanger and cover as much area within the exchanger as possible to exchange as much heat as possible. If you agree with this argument, then you figure out how to build it that way.
If there is a block off plate in the tank the fluid will run through the top and out the bottom of the cooler

The standard slim line is a radiator style. If you push fluid in the upper port and out the lower with the cooler mounted with the long axis horizontal, it will be a fair bit less effective. My contention for that is an air lock in the corner above the lower fitting. All I really know for sure was reversing the flow made a dramatic difference in how well the cooler works.I would assume so or the core would be sort of useless

So let on the lower port and outlet on top. Good to know
The lower port is the inlet and upper is the outlet because as Blaine said it's easier for the air to go up.
Left side for us is always the higher port. It routes out through a hole cut in the air dam and goes nowhere near the steering gear.Wish I would have seen this before I bought the other version. Sort of a pain to route around the steering box

Well maybe I'm not remembering correctly. The highside on mine is on the driver's side, but hose goes down near the steering shaft. Not done with it, so I'm probably just screwing it up.
Hello All, thanks for the suggestions.
I have finally ordered the strap dual pass version and 6AN hose and fittings kit from amazon. I will install it this weekend. and test the difference with the old failed Derale kit.
