Rock Sliders / Rocker Guards Guide

I called them back n them

Just tried it, you are correct!

I know you said you usually get nutserts off Amazon. Would you be able to post a link? Don’t want to cheap out if I end up going the modify route

I've used nutserts from Amazon and from McMaster. Both are zinc plated. I don't know anything about the long term reliability of either. I assume McMaster are better simply because they are a company dedicated to fasteners.

I do know that when I need different crush depth or neck width nutserts I go with McMaster. They are significantly more expensive, but I can get very specific fasteners.

Genright will send you nutserts with the sliders if the install instructions call for them. Then you will know the neck width they use for the 5/16-18 nutsert. There are varying neck widths (and crush depths). You might be able to call GR in advance if you want to know the neck width so you can get them on order. I'd send you some if you know the neck width and need some. I've got a couple hundred.

Hopefully you'll get a nutsert tool for install. It will go much faster than doing each one by the manual method. Something like this comes with various mandrels and some nutserts. There are many options on Amazon.

After waiting over a year for my Savvy rocker and corner armor order I got a refund and applied it towards Genright mini boatsides, corner armor and other stuff.
Done together they match up well and I am happy with the results.

Looks great, you should consider swapping those Allen's out for #4 Phillips. See below...he's talking about my rig.
I agree Phillips head screws are better and I used them on my homemade tailgate skin and valance. I used the Allen heads because they came with the rockers, corners, door armor and tub armor.
I may swap them out someday when it bothers me more.

Looks awesome!

Does the corner armor follow the same curves/lines/shape as the stock body panels? Reason I ask is down the road I want corner armor like you did but would hate to cut my sliders now, following the factory body panels and then screw myself down the road when I add corner armor

Yes they do however if possible I would wait and install the corners and the rockers together in order to get the best fit. Check out my last two pics again. To get those seams as tight as possible together with the line under the door and along the soft top channel straight they are best if done at the same time.

Thanks for the tip!

So dumb question, other than looking cool, what do the corner armor pierces protect against? Really tight trails with trees?

I'm also interested in where you folks that have sourced your nutserts. I've got a few here and they vary greatly in quality

::edit:: totally missed that you linked a tool above. I already have a tool and the nutserts that came with it are ok. The couple nutserts that came with the Cav Fab rockers seem more significant

Yes, the GR corner armor follows the same curves/lines/shape of the stock body panels. You mount the armor with clamps and then drill out the holes in the tub for the nutserts.

The JCR sliders are 6” up the side of the body and matched up perfectly with the GR corner armor. I’m sure GR has their sliders match up perfectly with the corner armor.

I did the sliders several years ago, then added the corners this year. Maybe I just lucked out, but I think 6” is pretty common for the better sliders and armor

Just placed an order for the miniboatsides too.

Been waiting for savvy, but with just a month before my Moab trip I thought it was time to make a decision. Look forward to seeing how they fit.

Don’t forget the backing plates for rigidity.
