RED02TJ 2.0

More notes for myself. I can’t see any difference between the rear left and right sides.

More notes for me.
Only comment the shop had on the work we did was the rear springs were not clocked dead even, just pretty close.

And apparently someone mistakenly sold the the takeoffs I had already paid for. They called and owned up to the mistake, said I could get a refund, wait for the same set or as an apology give me a deal on some new rubi takeoffs. (If they didn’t have such a good local reputation I’d think it was an up sell scam) I went rubi takeoffs and ended up with 5 x KO2 2857/70/17 for $500. Will probably need a spacer for the spare and if I ever decide to do sway bar disconnects I’ll need .5in spacers for full flex.

Should be ready for tomorrow.

News tires are sweet 285/70/17 KO2. I had originally bought 245/75/17 Dueler ATs but the shop made me an offer I couldn’t refuse on the KO2s

The Good.
No rubbing at full steer
No issues after the fuel pump install.
Shop replaced the snapped stud
Alignment feels good.
3yr old insists on climbing in by himself.

Not so good
Can’t figure out the sometimes hollow crunch from the rear over a speed bump. Today I pulled all 4 wheels to install my center caps so I checked every bolt, rear shock boots aren’t making contact, checked for forgotten tools, hit the neighborhood speed humps at 20+ and can’t hear anything, nor when I jump on the bumpers. This will drive me crazy

Full size spare is resting on the bumper, even when dropped to 20psi. For now I think that’s a good thing, and better than free hanging off the tailgate carrier

Short term todos
New Speedo gear + o ring in the mail
Install trailer wiring harness

Longer term todo, before kids camping trip in May.
RMS, oil pan, valve cover (I have the parts), Oil change, Redline for the tranny, will probably send to the shop and have them do it all at once.

Eventually decide on body lift. This was built for 31s and will spend most of the time on the road, but for $150 and a Saturday I can get the additional clearance the 33s should have.

Tires look great. Wish I knew what to suggest on the crunch sound coming from the rear. Just over speed bumps? Are you using any kind of trackbar relocation bracket on the axle side? If not, could the bar be contacting the closed in top of the mount?

Stock, yesterday when I had the wheels off I tried to better align the rear springs clocking and it shifted a bit. Hopefully it just needs to settle, would be so much easier if it was every time.

It wasn’t the shock boots. There are 3 speed humps in my neighborhood. On the way home I hit the last one at 20mph and I heard it, but not the other 5 times. I don’t hear it on the road and I can’t reproduce by jumping on the bumper. To be continued…

Got the hitch wiring harness installed and dressed the camera wiring.

Note to self, need to finish cleaning up the wiring for the sub under the carpet by the trans tunnel.

Drove about 50 miles since I changed the speedo so I crawled under to make sure no leaks.

Speedo is good but RMS has some seepage.

Tranny fluid changed to Redline today. Not sure if it was ever changed, sounds less like a box of marbles. Also hoping it helps with the issue of sometime it sticks in 2nd or 3rd and requires some pressure to pull out of gear.

Found some seepage in the headgsket. Coolant and oil look good so hoping it’s just one of those 20yr old Jeep things.

Valve Cover weekend and confirmed non TUPY :(
Old gasket was rubber like the blue felpro + the wire bridge at the back of the VC was gone, so I'm assuming the VC was changed at somepoint. Best I could tell the back the of the block was dry, pointing more towards my bottom end leak being Oil Pan or RMS.

Not interested in doing the OilPan + RMS in the driveway and I need to decide if its worth doing the OilPan and RMS since I don't know where the leak is actually coming from.

Have you noticed any improvements after changing the tranny oil? I'm getting ready to do mine soon.

I've got the 5spd, on idle the box of rocks is much quieter. Shifting also feels smoother when warmed but but it's still a bit "notchy" when cold in the morning (I don't think that will ever go away). I'll report back after I put a few more miles on it.
This worked perfectly for the 1qt bottles https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00329VL3G/?tag=wranglerorg-20
