I just purchased a set of rear chromoly shafts from Revolution today and I'm looking to upgrade the fronts as well.

I was wanting the Dana 44 USA Made1350 shafts they have but they told me on the phone they've been out of stock for two years and that they're most likely never coming back.

is there something else better out there? or should i just go with their Discovery Series front shafts?

thanks in advance!

Is just go with the discovery series. Installed a set three years ago in my LJ Rubicon and haven't had issues. I've also used Ten Factory in my 06 TJ and my 99 XJ with no problems. These rigs ran the Rubicon and Fordyce many times.

yeah i think that's what I'm gonna end up doing, they seem to have good reviews.

does anyone have any input on RCV's?

I have Superiors up front in mine and 10 factory in the back but I’m on a 35/30 not 44’s but they have been in for many years issue free. I had one front out the other day and it looked great.

I run RCV's. Different animal, as I run 60's, lot's of weight, and lots of power. I pound on my rig more than most and I've never had a failure after something like 15 years. I recommend them. Downside is cost, and they can sometimes click a bit as they age.

That said, I've heard of failures - particularly with the 44. If memory serves, Victor ( @gasiorv ), who also beats HARD on his TJ, has broken at least one. Hopefully he will chime in here.

I have "broke" multiple Front Dana 44 RCV shafts; however, I am still a huge fan and highly recommend them. They are one of the best things that I ever added to my Jeep. i pretty much do NOT worry about the RCVs at all when I am wheeling, which is saying something.

We've had a few Dana 60 failures. Comparatively, we've had zero u-joint failures on the same trails.

Everyone's experience is different and based on how they utilize the jeep; but I would not recommend Ten Factory based on my experience. Yes, they have a great warranty, and they warranty quickly, but the point that gets overlooked is that they are constantly warrantying. I personally broke numerous Dana 44 rear and front Ten Factory shafts and I know others who continue to break Dana 44 Ten Factory shafts. I got to the point where when I replaced them I didn't even try to give away the shafts (let alone sell them). I just tossed them in the scrap metal pile because that is all they were good for and I wouldn't give them to an enemy let alone a friend.

Just my 2 cents and my opinion. Other's may have differing experiences.

Pretty much mirrors our experiences with Alloy USA. They figured out in very short order that a stellar warranty and near stock strength on shafts was a winning combination. The vast majority wanted the name, they never used them hard enough to break even stock stuff. When a few did break, the no questions asked next day air warranty replacements showing up and then getting talked about on the internet as something great, made it all worse.

We broke the AUSA stuff on trails where the folks with stock stuff didn't break so it can be debated that some of their stuff wasn't even as strong as stock.

For those that didn't pay attention back then, the gent who started Alloy USA went on to get Ten Factory set up and selling parts. Later, they started Carbon.

Like you, I wanted the RGA USA Made1350 shafts, which are no longer available. I'll vote RCV IF you wheel hard/a lot. I've only had mine (30 spline in an HP 30) this season but I've done some reasonably tough trails (like the Rubicon in CA and, Pritchett and Coyote Canyon in Moab). Mine haven't broke and don't click, yet. 2 theoretical pluses are 1) full strength when turned, unlike U-joints, and 2) If they DO fail, they are less likely to do other bad things like push out your ball joints and make your wheel fall off as can occasionally happen with U-joints.

In support of my choice, having wheeled with @NashvilleTJ and @gasiorv, I can attest that neither spares the whip on their rigs. If these shafts work for them, they probably will for me and you.

On the other hand, if you only wheel in Florida, discovery series shafts may be more than you need?

I've led 100's of trail runs. 5-30 rigs per run, most running u-joint front axles. I've yet to see the lunging and binding that the marketing promises to eliminate.

My stock axles would bind at full turn lock with the locker engaged, that is what I was referring to. I am not sure what marketing you are referring to but I am not parroting anything I heard second hand or read in an ad.

yeah the jeep is definitely a little over built for Florida wheeling but i plan to take a few trips next year to other parts of the country.

What does the locker have to do with it? They either bind at full lock or they don't and the locker has nothing to do with how far the wheels are turned.
