Rechargeable headlamp suggestions

It's nice for turning it on & off when your hands are greasy or oily.

Makes sense.

For those considering it, clearly it has the needed sensitivity for hands because I'd been up against the body and never had it get 'accidentally' trigger by rolling around on the Jeep.

That said - I'm not telling my wife about this feature because it's still fun to be the idiot talking to her wearing the bright LED beam.

You need to go grab one and try that feature out just to see how it works.

The ones I'd bought before show a 2.5-8 hours of use.

If you get the 2 pack you can have one charging while using the other one.

You're damn right trying that out in the garage shortly! lol

I don't recall replacing one in any time I've used them for long (~8 hr) runs. They also have high and low output and I always run the high and get that 8 hrs.

Agree - that second one gives you that change over if it runs out. I do 'rotate' them. I have them on a nail on the wall and put the charging one to the back every time. This way I don't just only use the same one each time I pull it out. I suspect that keeps them better charged and cycles the batteries.

Knives and flashlights were a gateway to jeeps and Milwaukee tools. If you want to go down the rabbit hole, Zak does a good write up of some non big box brands, sizes and options and often a more in depth review. You can jump down to the headlight section.

https://zakreviews.com/arbitrary-list.html?2024.3

100% agree - so many of these topics can go for the 'right' answer and many will drill you to $$$ solutions...

Funny you mention knives because I still run my Kershaw Onion from 16 years ago (a few warranty repairs on the flip function as expect) but haven't pulled the trigger on the Spyderco Harpy that I want in my inventory...

Finding a 'it works' solution is good on this, any many similar, topics.

I'm a big fan of Olight. All the guys at work swear by Milwaukee...or at least that's what's being bought for them...all our hard hats are required to have lights in the event of power loss.

Can anyone suggest a rechargeable headlamp that has good lumens and good battery life?
I live off grid and use a headlamp frequently. Every day in the winter. These two are our primary headlamps.
https://www.petzl.com/INT/en/Professional/Headlamps/PIXA-2
https://millertechenergy.com/produc...2nd-gen-rechargeable-millertech-led-headlamp/

The Petzl isn't technically rechargeable, but I use Panasonic Eneloop batteries in it, so it kinda becomes that way. The Millertech light just has one brightness level. The Pixa has two. The Pixa uses a knob that you turn, rather than a button to turn on and off and adjust between the two brightness settings. It seems to be more durable than a button under a rubber cover like many lights have.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

I've got some of the better headlamps that are bulky and stick off your head. And I'll say for working under a vehicle I totally dislike them. They'll constantly bump into things. Where the thin headlamps don't and I can just wear it and forget it when not using it.
So IMO the job requires different styles. And I've worn NVG's for 8 hours every night for a long time.

@Wildman turned me on to these a while back:

Can't beat the price and getting x2 per pack. Battery life has been outstanding and held up well over the past year.

Very comfortable. So much so that I go in to talk with my wife and forget I'm wearing it when talking to her... :ROFLMAO:

To report back to you and @Wildman. I got 2 of these and they work well. I don’t like the on/off when you wave your hand feature because apparently my head gets close to the bumper or frame or tire and it goes off or on. But the functionality and light and run time is good. I’ll report back next Christmas. Thanks!

I think the "wifi" looking button turns that feature on and off - I have a different brand and mine doesn't do the wavey thing I think because I haven't pressed it yet? I haven't actually used it I just found it after losing it for a few weeks right after buying it.

Yeah, you just press the WiFi looking button to turn it on or off. I tried it several times and now I just leave it off because it drives me bonkers. May work better for you. I hope so because it would be cool if it only worked with your hand. But I found other nearby objects would trigger it. LOL

I guess I never got my head close enough to a frame or bumper part to make the light go on or off.

What I like about them the most was how light they are compared to the other headsets I had with the battery pack on the rear. I've seen some newer versions that I have thought about buying.
