Rear locker recommendation

That is not a "5k service" item.

I probably have 60k on my rear ARB and replaced the seal housing oring recently. But this ARB has been in multiple axles and has been regeared numerous times. I dont blame ARB for that one bit.

Maybe the folks I've known have just been unlucky cause they were not getting close to 60k. 5k may be an exaggeration but once a year or so they were having issues.

I haven't had any internal issues with my ARB's in 40k miles or so. I like them enough to recommend them since the whole system is pretty simple in my eyes. Never given me any real trouble and they work well for me at least.

The electronic lockers have become more popular recently after having a bad reputation for a number of years. Apparently they've gotten better. I don't know since I've never used one before, but it sounds like people are getting along well with them.

The people I have known to run the ARB's deal with repetitive seal issues. A friend who contacted ARB was told it was just a wear item. Not ideal to be out on the trail when its time for replacing one.

Good installation is key and ARB recommends someone who has air locker experience to install. If installed correctly, I would expect many thousands of miles of trouble free wheeling. Lot's of examples of people doing just that.

ARB is a great locker

I think air lines, seal housings, compressors, and solenoids add potential failures into ARB locker installations. I'm guessing this is why many stay away from them. With that said, I run a rear ARB on my Jeep because they are really solid when they work. I carry spare parts (solenoids, shut off switch, relays, air line unions) in case of failure on the compressor or line. I've yet to have a failure except for a pinched line.

I should add that they aren't cheap either. The locker is expensive and you need an air source like a compressor or tank.

Repetitive seal issues are an installer problem. If You think the O ring would get replaced on the trail I just don't see it unless you are stranded in the middle of nowhere and that is your only option. A leaky seal will be noticeable long before it's completely unusable.
