Dusty, otherwise known as Jeep in a box is in need of a way to carry the HEAVY spare tire. I am under the impression that hanging a heavy tire on the tail gate is not good for the gate, can you guys confirm. We have been looking at rear bumpers with a swing out tire carrier, but most mount the tire so high. The height and size of the tire would make looking in the rear view mirror pointless.

Amazon has many versions of this bumper, but I worry about quality, I like this style as it moves the tire lower. Any advice.

Is a 100lb 35" tire HEAVY?

I ended up ordering a SmittyBuilt Bumper and carrier last night. I don't want to take chances on heavy bits like a wheel and tire bouncing down the highway after it falls off.....My luck the tire would hit a Ferrari or something.

Yup, remember this is my first go in the Jeep world. Currently I am doing little old sports cars.....everything is so much more easy to man handle around.

What you see on mine has been working without issue for tens of thousands of miles. And it weighs substantially less and is quieter than the swing away carrier you bought without any real consideration of any alternatives.
