EDIT - Looks like the consensus in this thread says, screw it, run with it. Thanks @Zorba! Seriously, I did search before posting. I just read the wrong threads before posting.

I'm changing the OPDA on my '05 to a Crown replacement as a preventive measure, but I'm running into a slight issue with alignment. Details, then photos, then questions follow.
  • The TDC marks are aligned (harmonic balancer and timing cover)
  • The hole in the new OPDA is aligned and the OPDA is pinned.
  • The new ODPA appears to be about one gear off (clockwise from looking at the top) for it to seat fully vs the old OPDA

Old Assembly - note position relative to oil filter and motor mount:

New, again, not position next to motor mount and oil filter:

Question - do I just run with it positioned like that, or do I use a screwdriver to adjust the oil pump position to allow the new OPDA to be in the same physical relation to the engine as the old one?

Also, WTF? Did I move the oil pump when removing the old one? I tried reinstalling the old one, and it also installs into the same position as the new one.

Its' because the oil pump turns when you take the old one out. If you had used a long screwdriver to set the oil pump slot to approx 11 oclock, it would have dropped back to the old position.

However, as you have discovered, it doesn't make any difference. Just run it as it is.

Thanks so much, JKP. I appreciate that. I just got back from my test drive and all was well. I can be a little anal retentive, but not enough to pull it back out and adjust the oil pump to get it back to its old position.
