2005 six-cylinder Jeep. Short recap on how I got here: got a "bad camshaft position sensor" CEL, replaced it (only the sensor), Jeep ran fine for a few days, then got another CEL for the same problem, took the camshaft position sensor out and the wheel had impacted it and damaged it. Not sure how that happened but OK. I guess crappy tolerances. So this time I went and bought the whole "OPDA" assembly (Dorman brand, I think, from Autozone). Look at the picture below. I have the old OPDA (left) and the new one (right) side by side, both with the pin going through the hole in the wheel and assembly. Now look at the slot at the end of the shaft. Shouldn't the slots be aligned? I don't understand how to do this. If I turn the crank to TDC and I install the old OPDA such that the hole in the wheel matches the hole in the assembly, and the slot at the end of the shaft fits and the assembly drops all the way to the bottom, how can the new OPDA possibly fit? What am I missing? Please help.
