Piss & Moan Table

I hate tablets. They are not the same even the apps are different.

Things have improved significantly over the last “several” years.

Perhaps, but you keep ignoring my primary point. No keyboard, no mouse, tiny screen, brain dead OS, short life, expen$ive. Its like driving a toy car vs. a real one!

I just recently got a new Samsung tablet and since I have a Samsung phone you can so a "Mirror" (I'm sure Apple has a similar feature) so my Tablet has all the same Apps and settings as my phone. Recently had an update that told me now I can transfer calls, movies, basically what ever I'm doing on one I can transfer it to the other and continue with what ever I was doing. Thinking that would be a good benefit for video calls... The one thing the Tablet I got doesn't have is the cellular. I'm thinking I might have to upgrade and give the one I have to the folks after I reset it.

A "Phablet". At least you'd have a bit more screen on the thing - and maybe you can even attach a keyboard to it.

My last tablet (still operational btw got it in 2015) had cellular but you couldn't make calls from your cell phone number. You could however use google talk and get a free web based phone number.

The current tablet just mirrors my cell phone and has to use it's WIFI to use the transfer feature, or I have ot have both devices connected to the same WIFI. Just easier to use the phones hotspot.

And yep I can get a keyboard for either of the tablets I have. I can also click an option to change the internet web sites from android to desktop so the web page looks and functions just like when on a PC. Instead of having the 17" laptop screen it's only like 11.3 or something like that.

On tablets the screens are too big too be efficient and don’t fit in my pocket while traveling.

I have a surface I’d use in tablet mode before I’d use an iPad.

When I travel I also don’t take a mouse for my laptop.
I'm not a tech guy , however I will interject this thought. I can't see why anyone prefers a mouse over a touch pad or even a track ball. Carry On.
My wife doesn't either, but I really don't like track pads. I'll use one when I have to, but much prefer a USB mouse.

Then you're "getting closer"!

I like the Surface. You can set it up anywhere between a tablet and a laptop, and it runs a real operating system, even if it *is* the increasingly smartphone-esque Windows. With that said, my wife had a Lenovo version of a Surface. She ended up hating the thing, and insisted I buy her a real laptop. Got her a Dell with Linux, much to my surprise, she loves it.

Never had the opportunity to use a trackball. I do use a space mouse with my left hand though if I’m 3D modeling so I could see it being useful.

So it's a Glock vs. 1911 thing.

I guess. When I worked IT, I always carried a USB mouse in my pocket as I never knew what a client would have when responding to a trouble call. A laptop with no mouse, or anything with some kind of strange mouse, trackballs, etc. Much of the time, it was a cordless mouse with dead batteries - I never saw the sense in cordless keyboard/mice - at least not in an office environment.

A couple of my SolidWorks users had something similar. I'm sure its fantastic once you learn the thing, but I just needed to address their issue and get on with my day, hence the USB mouse. I like a 5 button USB mouse where there's side mounted "back" and "forward" buttons (and a scroll wheel).

Have the Microsoft surface and a Dell version of the surface plus a regular laptop. They all have pluses and minuses.

My desktop is a beast though so if anything real demanding needs done that’s where I’d need to be.

Whoa what da heck. And your left hand? I'm left handed and don't even mouse with my left hand

The mouse runs in the right hand. Most modeling is mouse clicks other than dimensions which is the number pad on the keyboard. The buttons on the space mouse are configurable for different views and such. Definitely increases productivity. The spaceball represents your part so you can rotate it in your hand very quickly.

My wife mouses with her left. She's strange, I know. Some people really like trackballs, and I can use one if necessary - but I'm clumsy with one.
Is she left handed?

I strongly prefer a mouse. Trackpads drive me nuts, and I kinda missed the era of the tracknub. Never seriously used a ball mouse.

IMO the Logitech g502 hero is the epitome of mouse design, so comfy. But I don't do 3d modeling.

I must have an older version of that mouse same basic features but not as space agey looking.
